According to various studies, over the years, something that has greatly diminished in various societies is trust in institutions, especially public ones, that is, those related to the State and the government of the moment. We could even say that with the news of the last presidential elections in the United States this has accelerated.

This has motivated important figures in the cryptographic world, such as Vitalik Buterin, for example, to accelerate the study of the positive implications that the use of public blockchairs can have on government systems, such as for elections. It has been made clear that there is a long way to go for this to be practical and safe (you can read more about it here)

For this reason, I would like to point out the relationship that we can establish between blockchain technology and politics, which would have a positive impact on societies, in fact, not only in the case of elections but also in the public administration in general there is some application, since there would be more transparency and therefore help improve the efficiency of governments.

By incorporating the blockchain to the various public policies implemented by the states, many frauds would be avoided, since the data registry that this technology allows, besides being open and distributed, is decentralized. Therefore, it is said that what is sought, in this sense, is to eliminate the intermediaries (party agents, state agents, etc.) that many times have been shown to be manipulable and corrupt.

It is worth remembering here that, although the first application of the blockchain was in the financial field (bitcoin), this is not the only one that exists, since, just as in finance this technology allows transactions to be recorded, in politics, which is the subject brought up here, votes, laws, properties, titles, etc. can be recorded, allowing, furthermore, that it is an immutable record, as a saying from the cryptographic world says: "What is done in the blockchain, stays in the blockchain", very much in the style of the city of Las Vegas.

Just imagine the possibilities this opens up. For example, it would be possible to speed up audit processes, avoid tax evasion, since it would allow real-time verification of the same, among other applications that, in addition to promoting transparency in these operations, would automate and simplify them, reducing costs for their implementation.

In short, there are great advantages to the use of the blockchain in state policies, since it would allow a better service from governments to their citizens, since seeing a public registry, transparent and immutable, would facilitate both the control of the citizens of their governments and also vice versa.

With this motivation, in fact, several startups have been born to channel these ideas. Examples include the Democracy Earth foundation, which promotes secure voting systems to prevent fraud, and Kleros, which seeks to transform judicial policy by decentralizing the application of justice in order to achieve greater effectiveness.

Similarly, there have also been countries and institutions where some experiments have been carried out (see the case of Estonia or, more recently, the blockchain of Waves), with satisfactory results.
