The Impact Of Weather And Seasons

LET'S TALK ABOUT WEATHER AND SEASONS

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog. I am excited to be a participant in the week’s prompt, which invites us to talk about weather and seasons.

I was born in a rural area of the Eastern part of Nigeria. I have had my taste of the different weather and seasons that are predominant in my country. I learnt a lot about weather and seasons from my mum, who worked as a teacher and farmer.

Of course, we have two predominant seasons, the rainy and dry seasons. While the rainy season starts around March in some parts of my country and ends around October, the dry season begins around November and ends in March. Meanwhile, it is not the same in the Northern part of the country, which harbours a multitude of farmers who depend on the seasons and weather to plan their farming and agricultural business.

The farmers leverage the two seasons to plant their crops. They know the crops for the rainy season, such as the corn, vegetables, and those for the dry season, including the cassava. In the same way, during the rainy season, due to flooding and poor drainage, there are malaria and typhoid illnesses. This is because of mosquito bites. The dry season is also known as harmattan. Everywhere is dusty and characterised by dehydration, cracked voices, dry lips, bodies, feet, cold, and cough. Once the first rain falls, the farmers will clear the ground in preparation for the new season. When it rains again, they move in and start making mounds for proper planting. All farmers enjoy this season. I guess it's their favourite season.

Furthermore, each season is ushered in and out by a very heavy sign of the outgoing one. For example, when the rainy season ends, there will be heavy downpour, thunderstorms, and strong winds. This happens around the end of October and most often causes heavy flooding around areas that are close to canals, river banks, etc. In the same vein, when the rainy season wants to start, there will be flash floods, boisterous winds, and thunder, which herald the new season.

My best season is the dry season, which heralds the harmattan season. I like it because it reduces the risk of accidents and mosquito bites and makes the environment very neat.

However, these days, the seasons are quite unpredictable and unstable. I was shocked that it rained almost all through my residential state. Then, right now, there is this kind of hotness that is happening. It came with measles, heat rashes, and a lot of skin infections. Things have taken another turn, so that even the farmers are finding it difficult to predict the seasons. The weather forecasters are not left out in this dilemma; their predictions these days are not efficient.

All these are a result of climate change. While it looks like we are not favoured by the weather, to some, like those SMEs. (Small and medium enterprises), It is a blessing in disguise for them. Their cold drinks businesses boomeranged, and they are cashing out. So, I would say that climate change is a game-changer for those who are open to locating opportunities in challenges.

The change in the weather is something else, it was difficult to know if it is the right time to plant or one need to wait a little last year not to plant too early, it was also too hot last year and it was as if the harmattan was not going to come.

Hmmm
What a thoughtful one..
It's so true that whatever seasons we are in will have a way of favoring certain sets of people/businesses.

Thanks for sharing.

Woah, thats cool 😎 😄. Outside that particular benefits, for veges, i prefer the dry and harmattan season.

The drainage systems aint paving the way for us to enjoy the raining season.

However we hope that things will improve as time proceeds.

Thank you for stopping by.

Each season has advantages and disadvantages.During dry season, sometimes the sun gets too harsh, the cold gets much, people's lips crack, dust fills everywhere and sometimes there's heat due to solar radiation.

The rainy season is nice but comes with things like flooding, mosquitoes due to grasses and gutters, sometimes rain prevents people from going to work and so on.

But both seasons comes with blessings too, people farm during rainy season and during dry season, the sun and wind helps in drying the products..

I agree with you. Each season comes with its pros and cons. I enjoy the harmattan season the most because of the dryness of the environment.
However, i like the vegetables that comes forth during rainy seaaon. Though the availability of irrigation through mechanised farming also made it possible for all year planting.
Thank you foe stopping by.

I assume that you have accidentally tried to mine HBIT twice on that day (UTC), where your previous HBIT mined (which was successful, getting a BLAQEMRLD gem in the process) was 13 hours before that comment !INDEED. 🤯 !WEIRD

Anyway, you have about 21 hours to mine HBIT for today. 😅 !HOPE !PIZZA
