I think most mammals can carry it. Some die quicker than others and thus do not end up being an effective transmission vector.

In the US apparently it is dogs and racoons that end up being an effective transmission vector. In other countries, like in East Asia, I believe it is rodents, mostly rats.

Bats are a highly effective transmission vector everywhere if I am not mistaken because in bats the virus can stay dormant for a long time (i.e., the incubation period is very long). But most humans and pets are not often in contact with bats, hence for most of us they are not a concern. In the US, however, they would often vaccinate you if you so much as had a bat fly into your room - even when there is no evidence that the bat had so much as touched you, let alone bit you.
