Today's news is from the Indian Prime Ministers speech about technology and books and I'll be looking at it critically to create a balance.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that although internet serves as an important source of information, it cannot replace books

From the words of the Indian Prime Minister, it's crystal clear that he didn't condemn technology at all, but said that it cannot replace books. I think from his context he meant manual books, what I mean here is books published in paper form.

In his video-recorded message played at the inauguration of 'Kalamano Carnival' book fair organised by Navbharat Sahitya Mandir here, PM Modi also said that in today's rapidly changing world, it was extremely important to nurture the habit of reading books - be it printed or digital.Source

Truth be told, reading culture across the world is dwindling on a daily basis because of high dependency on technological gadgets. The order day I talked to a friend about the gradual disappearance of handwriting from the lives of this generation children and we concluded that if nothing is being done, the future generations will think that people in the past didn't use their hands to writing in schools.

Most recently, reading is actually moving from print to digital, which is one of the ways to advance technology, but there are so many disadvantages in keeping print books both at homes and in the archives.

Printed books are usually faced with the challenges of being eaten and destroyed by rodents and insects. A friend of mine said his research project work and certificate was eaten by rodents.

Keeping books in digital form to me is the best way to preserve books of all kinds and most people especially in this digital generation prefer reading digital books than the printed ones.

Digital books are mobile and can be used everywhere without been noticed by others. I know that it's gradually reducing the usefulness of printed books, but the facts still remains that the world is moving and doesn't need to be static.

"When information is in our mind, the brain processes that information deeply, which creates new dimensions. This opens up a way for new research and innovation. Books become our best friend in this," PM Modi added.Source

This fact is very important so far as life is concerned. Most people don't memorize things any longer because they feel they can go back to the internet to retrieve the information when needed. The truth is that reading printed books helps one to think, memorize and look for areas that needs further research and venture into those areas to make the world a better place.

Haven't you experienced the fact that wherever you open your digital gadgets to read a book or scripture, some distracting notifications will prope up and if you aren't a disciplined person, you'll fall to that notification. Probably the notification is a credit alert or something you've expecting for a long time.

I'll conclude by saying that, both printed and digital books are relevant and equally have their advantages and disadvantages but what's is important here is embracing the reading culture that'll help the society become a better place.

Thanks!
