To simply add I will say that you are not helpless, the game made sure to give you your own "ghostly" powers in the form of a slow time, which allows you to shower whoever is in your way with lead.
The slow-motion mode is one of the best aspects of the game. Mostly this and the soundtrack (and the sounds in general) is my favorite parts from this game.
The characters, the design, the story and the above mentioned things made this game iconic. This game is one of my all time favorites.
I played this game a lot in my childhood. I could write a whole book about it.

Do write a book about it, because, why not? Sound ambiance is a big thing in this game, I spent most of my time playing it with loudspeakers and is terrifying.
