I don't know if I would congratulate you on your new headphone as the reason you bought it is that your old one ended up not working. 🙂
There was a time I am a fan of headphones and a repairman too. My first suspect that happened to your old headphone is that the wires gave up.
The wire of our headphones are made of small wires that are bundled so that it can easily bend when we want to. That is the same reason the they can easily break. I saw this happens a lot on tools and appliances power chords too.
For your headphone, my suspect is that the break happened near the plug because that is where the bend most happens. You can confirm this by using it and then moving or bending the wire connected to the plug. If you hear broken sounds from the earpiece then I am right. If that's the case, a DIY solution would be bend that wire to a point where you hear sound from the earpiece and tape that wire in place. 😁
Anyways, as an advice, you should be more careful when using new earphones by minimizing bends specially near the plug whenever you can. 🙂

That's exactly what happened to me, but not even moving the cable works anymore, I try not to bend the cable so much but it's difficult sometimes :c
