MIUI 13.0.4 (2022) review: was it worth the wait?

At the beginning of this year I had the opportunity to buy a new phone, those who follow me will know that I have made several posts about it, not only focusing on its performance from various aspects (specs, camera, gaming, etc) but also regarding the overall experience.

The thing is that even though I am very satisfied with my Xiaomi MI 11 Lite 4G, I would be lying if I told you that it is a perfect device… one way or another, beyond my enjoyment, I feel it is important to recognize the achievements and shortcomings of our cell phones, beyond the fanaticism that many of us feel for certain technology companies to the detriment of others.

More specifically, a couple of weeks ago I wrote a post here on geekzone where I criticized how problematic it had been trying to update my phone to MIUI 13, the latest version of the customization layer that Xiaomi puts on its devices, using for Android version 12.0 for the first time.

As someone who has been using android for a considerable amount of time (apart from a few brief breaks in iOS or bbOS) I must admit that Google's operating system has been polished quite a bit in recent years, giving us a very solid experience where we can virtually do basically anything. what we want

I finally had the opportunity to use Android 12.0 for more than a month and while I admit that it is an obviously better version than the previous one, it is also literally disappointing that the improvements are so subtle and few, at least for Xiaomi users.

Apart from a new control center (for which I haven't found much use so far) and a couple of new wallpapers, there are no major innovations from an aesthetic point of view, being relegated to improving the performance of our devices and general consumption. of the battery.

Honor to whom honor is due, although there is not a huge difference if you come to appreciate a higher degree of optimization in terms of ram, supporting several applications open at the same time without slowing down the operation of my phone.

Leaving aside the customization layer, the design of the original Google applications is renewed to adapt to this new version of Android, although it is nothing to write home about.

The most painful absence of this update has to do with the "Monet Themes" that Google has been promoting for so long on Pixel mobiles, which allow us to adapt the colors of the entire interface based on our wallpaper, giving us freedom of customization of Android to another level.

But I can't complain too much, Android 12 inside MIUI 13 works decently, it guarantees me a couple more years of support and it hasn't affected my phone's performance in any negative way. He's extremely conservative, yes, but at the same time he was smart not to freak out in the middle of ambitions he couldn't satisfy.

Al principio de este año tuve la oportunidad de comprarme un nuevo teléfono, aquellos que me sigan sabrán qué he realizado varios post al respecto, no solo enfocándome a au rendimiento desde diversos aspectos (specs, cámara, gaming, etc) sino también con respecto a la experiencia general.

El asunto es que a pesar de que estoy muy satisfecho con mi Xiaomi MI 11 Lite 4G, les mentiría si les digo que se trata de un dispositivo perfecto… de una manera u otra, más allá de mi disfrute, siento que es importante reconocer los logros y las falencias de nuestros celulares, más allá del fanatismo que muchos sentimos por ciertas compañías tecnológicas en detrimento de las demás.

De forma más específica, hace un par de semanas escribí una entrada en geek zone en donde criticaba lo problemático que había sido intentar actualizar mi teléfono al MIUI 13, la más reciente versión de la capa de personalización que Xiaomi pone sobre sus dispositivos, usando por primera vez la versión 12.0 de Android.

Como alguien que lleva una cantidad considerable de tiempo usando android (Aparte de unos breves recesos en iOS o bbOS) debo reconocer que el sistema operativo de google se ha pulido bastante los últimos años, entregándonos una experiencia muy sólida en donde virtualmente podemos hacer básicamente lo que deseemos.

Finalmente tuve la oportunidad de usar Android 12.0 durante más de un mes y aunque admito que es una versión obviamente superior a la anterior, también resulta literalmente decepcionante que las mejoras sean tan sutiles y escasas, al menos para los usuarios de Xiaomi.

Más allá de un nuevo centro de control (Al que de momento no me he encontrado mucho uso) y un par de nuevos wallpaper no existen grandes novedades desde un punto de vista estético, quedando relegadas a mejorar el rendimiento de nuestros dispositivos y el consumo general de la batería.

Honor a quien honor merece, aunque no hay una diferencia gigantesca si se llega a apreciar un mayor grado de optimización en términos de ram, soportando varias aplicaciones abiertas al mismo tiempo sin relentizar el funcionamiento de mi teléfono.

Dejando de lado la capa de personalización, el diseño de las aplicaciones originarias de google se renueva para adaptarse a esta nueva versión de Android, aunque tampoco es nada del otro mundo.

La ausencia mas dolorosa de esta actualización tiene que ver con los “Temas Monet” que Google lleva tanto tiempo promocionando en los móviles Pixel, los cuales permiten adaptar los colores de toda la interface en función de nuestro fondo de pantalla, llegando la libertad de personalización de Android a otro nivel.

Pero no puedo quejarme demasiado, Android 12 dentro de MIUI 13 funciona de manera decente, me garantiza un par de años más de soporte y no ha afectado el rendimiento de mi teléfono de ninguna forma negativa. Es extremadamente conservador, si, pero al mismo tiempo fue inteligente no enloquecer en medio de ambiciones que no podían satisfacer.
