A year using the Xiaomi MI 11 Lite - Review (Eng/Esp)

A year ago (January 7, 2022) I had the opportunity to exchange my old iPhone 6S for a Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite, although obviously the upgrade was quite substantial, I find the idea of revisiting my review of this great device interesting, trying to to reaffirm what its virtues were but also acknowledging the errors that at the time I was not able to see.

As I have exposed on several occasions, the task of changing one phone for another has always seemed to me a complicated but fascinating exercise where we find ourselves in an overwhelming ocean of options that can vary depending on various factors: Budget, favorite brands and our preference for certain types of specs above others.

In this case, the reason why I preferred the Mi 11 Lite was clear, and I think that in this sense it met my expectations: It was a visually attractive phone, it had a decent processor and it had a camera that performed very well, all this if mentioning its price tag that fit perfectly with my budget ($365 at the time).

The funny thing about it is that when you move from the low-end and break the barrier of 4gb of ram it seems that at least on paper all phones do the same: fingerprint reader, fast charging, internal storage of at least 128gb, ports type C etc For this very reason I feel that it is difficult to find things that are objectively "wrong" with my smartphone, however, if we go to the philosophy of "best device in value for money" we begin to see a couple of problems when we analyze all the situation in depth.

For example, there are lower-end devices that have the ability to handle refresh rates of up to 120hz, the mi 11 Lite only reaches 90hz in performance mode, the battery is decent but can't withstand more than a day of prolonged use and its Delicate design ends up being a fingerprint magnet on the back when it's not wearing a protective lining.

Now, does this mean that we are facing a useless phone? Not at all, they are only small inconveniences that I have to correct when I upgrade my smartphone again in a couple of years.

Its snapdragon processor runs most of the games and apps I need perfectly, having an SD slot allows me to expand its substantial storage, and the presence of a fingerprint reader on the side makes it easy to unlock it at all times. Despite its weaknesses, the Mi 11 Lite is a very consistent phone where the Xiaomi experience works quite well, the MIUI customization layer has its own identity without sacrificing freedom and the optimization of most apps is very decent. As an iOS lover going back to using Android as my main operating system took a while to get used to but in the end it was all worth it.

I feel very satisfied and I hope to have this same device for a long time, at no time have I felt the need to perform another upgrade and I think that says a lot about the decision I made.

Hace un año (el 7 de enero del 2022) tuve la oportunidad de cambiar mi viejo iPhone 6S por un Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite, aunque obviamente el upgrade fue bastante sustancioso, me parece interesante la idea de revisitar mi reseña de este genial dispositivo, tratando de reafirmar cuáles fueron sus virtudes pero reconociendo también los errores que en su momento no fui capaz de ver.

Cómo he expuesto en varias ocasiones la tarea de cambiar un teléfono por otro siempre me ha parecido un ejercicio complicado pero fascinante en dónde nos encontramos en un océano abrumador de opciones que pueden variar dependiendo de varios factores: Presupuesto, marcas favoritas y nuestra preferencia por ciertos tipos de specs por encima de otras.

En este caso la razón por la cual preferí el Mi 11 Lite fue clara, y creo que en este sentido cumplió con mis expectativas: Era un teléfono visualmente atractivo, tenía un procesador decente y contaba con una cámara que rendía muy bien, todo esto si mencionar su price tag que encajaba a la perfección con mi presupuesto (365$ en ese momento).

Lo gracioso del asunto es que cuando te mueves de la gama baja y rompes la barrera de los 4gb de ram pareciera que al menos en papel todos los teléfonos hacen lo mismo: Lector de huellas, carga rápida, almacenamiento interno de 128gb mínimo, puertos tipo C, etc. Por esto mismo siento que es difícil encontrar cosas que estén objetivamente "mal" con mi smartphone, no obstante, si nos vamos a la filosofía de "mejor dispositivo en relación calidad-precio" empezamos a ver un par de problemas cuando si analizamos toda la situación a profundidad.

Por ejemplo, existen dispositivos de gama más baja que tienen la capacidad de manejar tasas de refresco de hasta 120hz, el mi 11 Lite solamente alcanza los 90hz en modo performance, la batería es decente pero no soporta más de un día de uso prolongado y su diseño delicado termina siendo un imán se huellas en la parte trasera cuando no lleva un forro protector.

Ahora, ¿Esto quiere decir que estamos frente a un teléfono inútil? Para nada, solamente son inconvenientes pequeños que debo corregir cuando en un par de años vuelva a hacerle un upgrade a mi smartphone.

Su procesador snapdragon me corre la mayoría de los juegos y apps que necesito a la perfección, tener un slot SD me permite ampliar su sustancioso almacenamiento y la presencia de un lector de huellas al costado hace que sea fácil desbloquearlo en todo momento. A pesar de sus flaquezas el Mi 11 Lite es un teléfono demasiado consistente en dónde la experiencia Xiaomi funciona bastante bien, la capa de personalización de MIUI tiene una identidad propia sin sacrificar la libertad y la optimización de la mayoría de las apps es muy decente. Como un amante de iOS volver a utilizar Android como mi sistema operativo principal llevó un buen tiempo para acostumbrarme pero al final todo valió la pena.

Me siento muy satisfecho y espero contar con este mismo dispositivo durante un buen tiempo más, en ningún momento he sentido la necesidad de realizar otro upgrade y creo que eso dice mucho de la decisión que tomé.

Mi primer año con el xiaomi Mi 11 Lite ha Sido bastante decente.
