Para nada es un misterio que nuestra red en algunas ocasiones, o incluso justo ahora, esté siendo utilizada por alguien sin permiso, cada vez son más los programas que hacen vulnerable la "contraseña" de nuestro internet, y en paralelo van surgiendo herramientas y funciones que nos permiten contrarrestar este inconveniente de una manera sencilla, así no tengamos conocimiento alguno sobre el tema y teniendo todo al alcance de un par de toques a la pantalla. Hablemos de Fing.

Let's talk about Fing.

Esta app la podemos descargar directamente desde la Play Store, es bastante ligera y cuenta con una versión de entrada gratuita y la opción completa de paga con algunas funciones adicionales, en este caso estaré en el contexto de las funciones gratuitas.

Instalamos la app y ya podemos acceder a la interfaz, sin necesidad de registro alguno, al ingresar a la primera opción de "Buscar dispositivos", es donde podremos indagar sobre quien se encuentra conectado a nuestra red wifi, allí podremos tener acceso a la dirección MAC del dispositivo, y conocer algunos otros aspectos de relevancia como un trazado de ruta para saber desde que lugar se están conectando, medir el ping del dispositivo y lo más importante, la opción de borrar al intruso de nuestra red, para esto, solo debemos mantener presionado el nombre del dispositivo y allí estarán las opciones antes mencionadas, luego simplemente nos encargaremos de hacer una revisión para verificar que los demás que están conectados sean equipos de nuestro hogar.

La app cuenta también con una opción para determinar la velocidad de conexión de nuestra red, normalmente esto lo hacemos con alguna página desde nuestra pc como por ejemplo "speedtest", esto resulta bastante útil para saber si el estado de nuestra conexión nos permitirá ver de forma fluida Netflix, hacer descargas y entre otras opciones.

The app also has an option to determine the connection speed of our network, normally we do this with a page from our pc as for example "speedtest", this is quite useful to know if the state of our connection will allow us to see smoothly Netflix, make downloads and other options.

Algo sumamente curioso, es que después de comprobar nuestra conexión, la app nos ofrece una opción llamada "encuentra el mejor proveedor", allí estará un top de las mejores compañías de nuestra ciudad o del país, una data que está sujeta a las estimaciones de los usuarios que han interactuado con la app de Fing.

Something extremely curious, is that after checking our connection, the app offers us an option called "find the best provider", there will be a top of the best companies in our city or country, a data that is subject to the estimates of users who have interacted with the Fing app.

Otra de las opciones útiles de Fing es el hecho de poder marcar los dispositivos que nos pertenecen, así la app puede crear un registro de dispositivos nuevos en diferentes lapsos de tiempo, solo bastaría con abrir posteriormente Fing y ubicar esos intrusos para sacarlos de la red. Probablemente esto sea una opción rápida, pero no la más efectiva, y es allí en donde entra la importancia de la cantidades de información que nos suministra Fing sobre los intrusos, siendo la dirección MAC la más importante de todas, con esto, bastaría hacer un ajuste desde el modem para bloquear estas direcciones MAC definitivamente de nuestra red, aunque esto requiere de un poco más de experiencia, pues es un poco más delicado y requiere de ciertos conocimientos para no estropear nada en las opciones de muestro modem.

Another useful option of Fing is the fact of being able to mark the devices that belong to us, so the app can create a record of new devices in different periods of time, it would only be enough to open Fing later and locate those intruders to remove them from the network. This is probably a quick option, but not the most effective, and that is where the importance of the amount of information that Fing provides about the intruders comes in, being the MAC address the most important of all, with this, it would be enough to make an adjustment from the modem to block these MAC addresses definitely from our network, although this requires a little more experience, as it is a little more delicate and requires some knowledge to not spoil anything in the options of our modem.

Los intrusos 👀 The Intruders

No utilizo Fing más que para explorar semanalmente la red y verificar que todo esté bien, a veces por más seguridad que tengamos, nos llevamos con la sorpresa de encontrarnos algunos nuevos visitantes indeseados. En el tiempo de uso que llevo, he eliminado unas cuantas redes, en una de esas ocasiones, me dí con la sorpresa de encontrarme a un router que estaba siendo repetidor para un lugar más distante, de inmediato lo eliminé y bloquee, esto en ocasiones resulta muy evidente por la lentitud inhavitual de nuestro internet.

I don't use Fing other than to scan the network weekly and verify that everything is ok, sometimes no matter how much security we have, we are surprised to find some new unwanted visitors. In the time I have been using it, I have eliminated a few networks, in one of those occasions, I was surprised to find a router that was being a repeater for a more distant place, I immediately eliminated it and blocked it, this is sometimes very evident due to the inhavitual slowness of our internet.

La practicidad de Fing resulta bastante agradable, más que todo para usuarios más inexpertos que buscan una solución y verificación rápida del estado de su red. Personalmente es una de esas apps que encuentro útiles para tener en mi dispositivo, sabiendo que será imposible estar libre de las personas que buscan beneficiarse del internet de otros de uns forma muy injusta.
