How To Clean Mouse Mat (Cloth) Only and Non RGB
Hey everyone!
If you’re like me, who used to think that mouse mat is non-washable and inexpensive to replace, it’s time to change. To refresh, I changed my mouse mat a few months ago with the one from Miniso. It was well-stitched and scratch free. Everything went well until a few months in and some stains from coffee, hand sanitizer, water and dust started collecting on the surface. So there were stain marks and discoloration started to happen. It looks pretty dirty and I feel more conscious as I go outside laying my mouse mat and it looks pretty disgusting. I mean, just look at the before picture below.
I was thinking about buying a new one until I decided that I might as well wash it. What wrong could happen right? Apparently washing a mouse mat is a completely normal practice and people do it all the time. However, there are a few exceptions with RGB mouse & a cloth mouse. This is how I would do it with a cloth mouse and make sure that if you have an RGB mouse and are wired, they require extra care and different treatment. Without further adieu, here’s how I cleaned my mouse mat and restored it almost as I purchased it from the store.
How To Clean Mouse Mat
- Prepare water(I was using 50/50 with warm water) and soak the mouse mat inside it for about 10 minutes.
- Add a good amount of liquid dish soap. Some people use laundry soap and detergent but your pick.
Scrub the surface of the mouse with the soft sponge and scrub well especially the part with the most stain.
Rinse well and thoroughly.
- Twist it and let it dry until it’s dry enough. Do not directly expose it to sunlight. I would put it somewhere with the most light but never really outside the house.
Tips from me : use a small hanger and place it in front of a fan if you need your mouse mat ASAP.
You can see above how it looks now, they certainly look cleaner and I won’t have to worry about buying a mouse mat again. Not to mention, now I can carry them around without having to feel ashamed that they look somewhat dirty and stained.

So, next time you have a dirty mouse mat, don’t throw them away just yet! They can still be revived.

My mouse mat covers my whole desk and I just put it in the washing machine :P
😄 that's pretty big. I can't travel around with a big mouse mat like that haha.
Oh, that's a great tip. I've been using the same mat for a couple years now and it's time to clean it but mine has prints on it and I don't know if it would work on my mat.
damn, that's pretty long. It's time to give it a good soak and scrub. I think depending on the prints but a good one shouldn't come off that easily especially with the soft scrub.
Ahhhh dayum! Now that is something I've never even thought about doing🤔🤔💭💭 let's get on it!!
!LUV
hahaha yeah! I thought I was alone but apparently there are others who would rather clean it than just buy a new one :D money saving hack!
You also have Miniso in your place? I love buying some merchandise there as it was cool , love the designs but at the same time affordable.
Hmm I am not using a mouse pad, until such time hubby bought one for me the last time he went home
This is a good hacks!
We have a lot of Miniso in Indonesia even in smaller towns. But that one, I got it from Miniso Laos. Next time your mouse pad is dirty, you can just wash it instead buying a new one each time it's stained hehe.

It doesn't look bad at all. It's a very good idea, I like it a lot. :p I have two, one black, and one covered with fabric. That last one tends to get dirty I also washed it but it started to peel off.
My black one was super dirty and I didn't even think of cleaning it. Now after this, I am not gonna buy a new one anytime soon haha.
Imagine that if it is difficult for me to do maintenance to the pc in general, let alone to dedicate attention to certain elements such as the mouse pad, in fact I have only had one in my life since my desks are made of wood where the mouse itself moves without any problem. So adding elements that require maintenance is not in my plans. Still good explanation for those who need to maintain a neat and presentable area 😅.
🤣 Having Pc is always an extra work so I can understand if you don't care about having a presentable mouse. For me though, since I go outside with my mouse pad and everything, gotta make them look a lot more presentable.
Nice mousepad, honestly I wouldn't use light colors but I found it cute, my mousepad is a lot bigger so I'm sure washing it will take a little more effort, but I'll follow your steps, cheers!
haha yeah, light isn't definitely a preferred color. Mine used to be mostly black but this one is something I am stuck with now. Also, @pusen mentioned he just puts it inside a washing machine, so maybe that one will work for you considering it's not wired mouse mat.
Take note mine specifically says that it's ok to do so in the product description!
That's a very important detail and I'll have to check mine, thanks for the help!
