What's up hive friends? today I want to share with you how I was able to repair my wife's phone, which is a Samsung J7 using two tools, one very common as is Odin and another one a little complicated to obtain but it is the best we can use to repair our device the Samsung tools or Z3x.

Odin

Z3x

to get into context, the phone turned off out of nowhere and apparently crashed and the ROM(operating system of our phone) and when trying to turn it on it threw the following error.

Custom binary blocked by FAP lock

Custom binary blocked by FAP lock.
this was the message that appeared the first thing I did was to investigate what was due and apparently it is a failure in certain Samsung devices that have a ROM binary prior to the one that should have the device to corroborate this I went to recovery mode with the combination of buttons Vol up Home button and power button at the same time then I came to this menu,

Here I could see the ROM binary that the phone had and determine the problem which was that it had a ROM Binary 1 and the phone needed a ROM binary 2.

What is a binary in Android? The binary is the number in the middle, after the device model and a series of letters that appear. Right after these is the binary, in this case J700MUBU1.

Why had a rom Binary 1? and the phone is Binary 2?
because the truth can not be that the previous owner took it to a technician to make the software and did not have the latest version if you choose to load a ROM from a previous binary without taking into account future problems, now the higher the binary more current is the security patch and date of the rom in the case of my Samsung Note 8 is binary 16 much more current.

Now I go to the page where I usually download the ROMs for Samsung which is Samfrew where I locate the latest update of the operating system for this model that is indeed Binary 2.

After having already downloaded the rom the step is simple unzip it and open odin and select the AP box and load the file that is the rom and for a better understanding we go with step by step.

paso 1
Seleccionamos la casilla AP

step 1
select the AP box

paso 2

step 2
select the file named AP, which in this case is the only one in the most current models, there are always 4 files that go in their respective boxes.

followed by this we have to enter download mode for which we will have to use a combination of buttons that is different in different samsung phones in this case Down Button `+ Home Button and Power at the same time and we have to leave this screen.

Now we press start and wait for the ROM is loaded.

After this the phone was fine but I noticed that it detected the Sim card but it was not able to raise signal, so the solution is to load a network certificate, in these old models of samsung it is normal that this happens from time to time. and this is when we use the famous Z3x for which technicians charge very expensive here in Venezuela when they have to use it. if you have a samsung phone that is not unlocked and you would like to do it you can use this tool that if you want I can leave you the link to my google drive and you save some money and I could help you with the procedure as long as it is within my knowledge, and you understand that if a step goes wrong you can damage the phone.

now these are the steps to load the new certificate.
to use this tool for these more complex jobs we have to be Root user or super user, because we have to overwrite files from the root of our phone using ADB. the process to be Root is different for each device.

Paso 1

Step 1
after opening z3x we select the model of our phone in our case J700. and press select.

z3x 2.jpg

Paso 2

Step 2
go to backup verify that the program is detecting the phone and click on read cert.
z3x 4.jpg

Paso 3

Step 3
final step is to select Write cert and select the certificate for our phone, after this the phone will reboot and we should have signal.

The truth is that it was not as complicated as I imagined, of course, having the right tools I was able to save about 25$ Usd more or less.
