So, after looking for various options for a while, I purchased the Total brand electrical tool kit for 30 USD, and here are my first impressions.

Quien haya trabajado reparando algo eléctrico alguna vez, sabe lo esenciales que son un multímetro y una pinza amperimétrica. Por eso tras buscar por un tiempo varias opciones, adquiri el kit de herramientas eléctricas de la marca Total por 30 USD, así que les cuento mis primeras impresiones.

The first thing that catches the attention is that for the price, it seems like a good deal that it comes with three tools: a clamp meter (TMT42002), a digital multimeter (TMT460012), and a non-contact voltage detector. Plus, the set includes two pairs of AAA batteries needed for operation.

Los primeros que llama la atención es que por el precio, parece buen negocio que traiga tres herramientas: una pinza amperimétrica (TMT42002), un multímetro digital (TMT460012) y un detector de voltaje sin contacto. Además, el set incluye dos pares de baterías AAA necesarias para su funcionamiento.

The Good

• The main thing is that they are fully functional; they have multiple options for different measurements, the basics being: voltage, current, continuity, impedance, and resistance.

• For someone like me who does occasional work, they seem like a good option; they aren't heavy-duty, but they fulfill the basics. I even think they are ideal for an electrician, refrigeration technician, or automotive electrician because they are small, ideal for traveling, and don't require carrying much weight.

• The price is undoubtedly the best part; we are talking about 10 USD per tool, which is fine.

Lo bueno

• Lo principal es que son totalmente funcionales, cuentan con múltiples opciones para distintas mediciones, las básicas entre: voltaje, corriente, continuidad, impedancia y resistencia.
• Para alguien como yo que hace trabajos ocasionales me parecen una buena opción, no son heavy duty, pero cumplen con lo básico. Incluso creo que para un técnico electricista, de refrigeración o electro auto son ideales, porque son pequeñas, ideales para trasladarse y no cargar tanto peso.
• El precio sin duda es lo mejor, estamos hablado de $10 usd por herramienta, lo cual está bien.

The Bad

• The first thing that stands out is the quality of the materials. The plastic feels light and not very resistant; honestly, they don't look like equipment made to withstand falls—maybe one or two, but no more, as they will probably break.

• The size could be a con because they are really small, and therefore the displays are also small, and they don't have backlighting. But for technicians who work on-site, the size could be favorable.

• The most unfavorable point is the accessory management because it comes with only one set of cables as test leads. This is definitely an annoying design error because it forces you to keep connecting and disconnecting the leads between the multimeter and the clamp meter.

Lo malo

• Lo primero que salta a la vista es la calidad de los materiales. El plástico se siente liviano y poco resistente; honestamente no parecen un equipos para resistir caídas, quizás una o dos pero no más, porque probablemente se rompan.
• El tamaño podría ser un contra, porque son realmente pequeños, por ende los display también lo son, y no tienen retro iluminación. Pero para técnicos que trabajan a domicilio podría resultar favorable el tamaño.
• El punto más desfavorable es la gestión de accesorios, porque trae un solo juego de cables como puntas de prueba. Esto definitivamente es un error de diseño molesto, porque te obliga a estar conectando y desconectando las puntas entre el multímetro y la pinza amperimétrica.

Final Verdict

For 30 USD, for me, it is a kit that fulfills its function; it helped me with the diagnosis in the repair job I am doing on my car. Its durability will depend on the care you give it, as it is not made to withstand heavy impacts. So, if you are a professional technician, you might want to consider investing in something more robust.
