Human and machine
The truth is that the first machines helped man and eased his suffering, but after 1880 huge machines were used in assembly and production lines in which man feels insignificant, and because of the new production system, man found himself dependent on the machine, attached to it, and forced to work according to the speed it requires, and with all his energy and concentration and his feelings. Human has become constrained to perceive any feelings or emotions that do not help him to catch up with the machine as irrelevant to his life and distracted by his production; Material production and consumption have become the center of human activity and “maximum efficiency” is the first criterion, without regard to any other values. Everything that is technically possible we must do, if it is possible to travel to the moon or produce nuclear bombs, we must do so, even if it is at the expense of many of the needs that man needs, which we have not met on earth.
