New Keycaps For My SK64, Improved My Writing Speed

(Edited)

I wrote a piece earlier about my SK64. How much the optical keyboard has grown on me. Since I've ordered DIY keyboard kit, I thought I'd buy a pack of keycaps and switches for the keyboard before it arrives. That being said, I couldn't wait to test them out so I put my new keycaps on the SK64. The results were pretty amazing.

Before change

OEM keycaps that comes with the keyboard, these are pretty small and sound like you're tapping on mushroom paddings. They are sound dampened too.

The keyboard plugged in and running with RGB on.

I did appreciate the minimalist design of the OEM keycaps, however I would come to soon realize that replacing these made my typing experiences much easier. Thanks to the newer keycaps design, and the additional aesthetic features, made me appreciate my keyboard even more.

After change

All keycaps are removed, this is the first step before putting the new ones on.

New keycaps inserted, they give off an interesting, snazzy look compared to the soft padded look. Not only that but each keycap is elevated and angled upwards from downside. This allows me to easily have contact everytime I type.

RGB activated. These are doubleshot PBT shine through. Meaning they transparent keycaps that allows the light to pass through the characters.

End result

These keycaps are more clacky, nice clacky noise. Would go really well with clicky switches or maybe those smooth, quite linears that would make tiny clacks but the noise would still be retained.

From typing, my WPM improved. Like, these keycaps made it much easier for my sausage fingers to type on. Amazing. Used to be 65, now it's at 80WPM from Typetest.io .

You can also try monkeytype. Most people these days use that instead of anything else. But typetest.io did its job for me.
