Tutorial-caricatura-01.jpg

Flowery day Hive friends, today I wanted to bring you a tutorial to turn a common photo into a caricature, using Photoshop, it's a pretty simple tutorial, and with practice we can create amazing effects.

This tutorial is made in two parts, but as I already published the first part, I am not going to repeat it here, just follow the instructions of PHOTO EFFECT TUTORIAL IN ADOBE PHOTOSHOP that will give the image the plastic aspect that we need for our purposes. As you already know, I also published it in another post, all the steps that are done in this tutorial you can turn them into an action and thus shorten the process, in another post I will explain how to automate all these steps in photoshop with the Actions tool.

For this tutorial I used the photo of Prince Akachi from Unsplash, you can download it if you like to do the practice and not hurt susceptibilities if we don't reach the goal with the photo of a family member. We have to sharpen the eye to determine the distinctive features of the person portrayed, as these are the ones that will dictate the actions we must perform to complete the work that has brought us here today.

Captura3.PNGCaptura2.PNG

To begin we are going to separate the image from the background, we must decide if we will use or not this background, in my case I don't want to use it so I erased it. To select the main image we have many options in photoshop, I used the Polygonal Lasso tool, and with a lot of patience I was bordering the figure until completing and closing the path, I pressed the keys Control + J at the same time and a copy of the selected image was made. I coupled the image and as I already have all the actions from the tutorial I mentioned above, I just pressed the click that starts the set of steps to achieve the satin effect of the image. If you don't have this option registered in Photoshop, just follow the instructions in the tutorial.

Among the most characteristic facial features of the model are her eyes and mouth, cheekbones and chin, so I will focus on accentuating those details, using different techniques. The first thing I will do is, with the rectangular frame, make a selection of her eyes and create a copy of this selection by pressing the Control + J keys, and proceed to enlarge this copy.

We must enlarge the area trying not to hide other areas, for example, the hair, by being enlarged the texture of the skin will no longer match the texture of the original image, so we will proceed to erase all the straight edges of the enlarged copy of the eyes, we will use the Eraser tool with a brush with fuzzy edges and at a suitable size to not over erase.

Captura6.PNGCaptura7.PNG

The same we are going to do with the mouth, which I selected using the Polygonal Lasso tool, so as not to take parts of the nose in the process. In the same way I enlarged the features and erased the edges, here you can notice the difference in the skin tone and texture around the lips when enlarging them, so I erased everything around the mouth so it wouldn't be noticeable.

Captura8.PNGCaptura9.PNG

Then we are going to merge visible, this means that we will merge the layers of the eyes, the mouth and the original image, right clicking on any of the layers we will select merge visible and not flatten image, for example, to keep the transparency. As you can notice I still keep the original image in hidden mode in my layers, this in case something goes wrong and I need to resort to it again to rescue some element.

Captura10-01.jpg

Now we are going to open the Liquify tool in the Filter menu and there we are going to find another set of tools, in which we are only going to use a few, Let's relate what we did here. First I used the Inflate tool to enlarge the head a bit, I used a large brush and enlarged the whole forehead and the hair area, with a slightly smaller brush, I also exaggerated the cheekbones and the chin, trying to modify the features without detracting from the model's identity.

With the Freeze Mask tool we can leave fixed the section where we apply the red brush and thus when enlarging, inflating, deflating we will do it without modifying the adjacent areas and thus not falling in the terrible mistakes of photoshop, with curved lines on walls and doors.

And so we conclude this tutorial, I hope you liked it and that you can put it into practice, it has a very funny result, and you know that you can stop wherever you want, in your own images, or not exaggerate so much some features, I'm a little exaggerated, but I swear it's for pedagogical purposes. See you next day!

Saludos!!
