My passion for birds🧠📚 / Mi pasión por las aves🦆🦜🦩

Hello friends! today I have a nice post dedicated to my favorite animals and after 3 years I was finally able to participate again in a ring, today I came to the Albufeira lagoon where the ICNF (institute for the conservation of nature and forests) did a job of a week to capture and ring birds, this record was intended to give an idea of how the migratory populations that arrive in Portugal were, without further ado, join me on this adventure!🦆📚🧠🧭

About ringing🙇‍♂️🧠 / Sobre el anillamiento🦆👨‍🏫

As you can see in this photo, I managed to photograph two species of birds of the family (Laridae) that wore rings on both legs, some are made of aluminum and are placed when the bird is captured with "traps" and the other blue and larger is for make observations with "naked eye" and establish a record of the place where the bird is found! In Europe it is forbidden to place two aluminum rings on the same bird! just one!🧠🕵️‍♂️👨‍🏫

Since the technique of capturing and ringing birds was invented, we began to better understand these fantastic animals, thanks to capturing and ringing we can create routes and place GPS to track a species for life! we also better understand how the phenomenon of migration works and how is the state of the feathered populations! in short we can collect very important scientific information! We could even do DNA tests or evaluate diseases!👨‍🏫👨‍🎓🕵️‍♂️

Among the data that we can extract from a bird when the ringing technique is applied, the following stand out: "Evaluate the status of the population, an estimate of how long they live, learn their migratory route, what their reproductive success rate is like and finally how it grows its population at a certain time! As I mentioned before of a bird we can also study the health status of a complete population! For example, the ICNF made a capture of birds when the "bird flu outbreak" occurred.🧠🕵️‍♂️👨‍🏫

Banding is not done by just anyone and it takes months or years of practice! If you do not belong to a scientific organization, you will have to obtain a bird ringing permit, which is very expensive and difficult to obtain, since they generally do not grant them to people who do not have a connection with a company, or research institute, it could be said that ringing helps to understand the biology of the feathered populations!🤯🦩📚

To create scientific data, each species of captured bird ends up being individualized and at the same time can represent a population. To create scientific records, a metal ring is placed on the tarsus of the animal, being very careful not to hurt it! and continues to make morphometric measurements that vary depending on the object of study! for us this week it was (measuring weight, wing span, estimating body fat and obviously identifying the species).😱🦆🦩🦜

I am inexperienced in European birds since my profession and experience was acquired in South America! Of course I have nothing to envy Europe because I was basically in the countries that are "kings in ornithology" (Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia), but it is always good to start learning the common species here in Portugal and our neighbor Spain that It is the second country with the greatest diversity of bird species in Europe!🧠🌏👨‍🎓

My first volunteer🙇‍♂️🧠 / Mi primer voluntariado🦆👨‍🏫

I was very excited that week because it was my first volunteer here in Portugal, we captured 4 species of birds, two of them were migratory! Being a volunteer I don't have the same scientific access if, for example, I compare myself with Mr. Filipe who was my supervisor in this beautiful activity! I felt that he was nervous because we actually have some variations on capturing techniques! while we hold the bird with our closed hand he taught me that it is only held by the head! I've never done it this way!🤯👨‍🏫

I do not have permission to disclose any type of scientific information that has been created by the ICNF but I can summarize for you that it was a productive week, more than 50 species were captured, one third was migratory! and tells us that over the years some populations are declining due to the use of pesticides and applied to the (Hirundinidae). We managed to conclude this thanks to the fact that we can ring birds!📚👨‍🏫🤯

an inexplicable beauty🙇‍♂️🧠 / Una belleza inexplicable🦆👨‍🏫

I wouldn't know how to explain it to you but in birds I find a peace that I don't get with any other animal! For me they are the most beautiful animals on the planet and few know but they are brothers of the dinosaurs! very ancient animals that have been able to adapt and managed to colonize almost the entire planet! when I have the opportunity I come to some BIRDWATCHING sites to photograph interesting species! in the lagoon it is normal to capture many waterfowl!💥📚👨‍🏫

DNA is an organization to foster and DENSIFY NATURE-APPRECIATION which aims to establish REPORTS OF BIODIVERSITY DATA that is contributed by all of us Hiveans and subsequently cataloged.

Therefore DNA searches for HIGH-QUALITY posts that aim to DESCRIBE and determine the BIODIVERSITY AROUND YOU with added EXPLANATIONS and INFORMATION. For these informative posts they offer a CURATION SERVICE using the @dna.org account. It is also a CURATION TRAIL. Just add the #dna TAG if you think that any of your posts is what they are looking for.
