Cormorant is a bird that excels at hunting underwater

A species of cormorant bird lives in our country. The bird usually dives into the water at great speed and catches fish. So I see them in rivers or any water bodies. The cormorant bird is completely black and some subspecies may have a white patch on the neck. The cormorant bird belongs to the Phalacrocoracidae family. Some characteristics of these birds set them apart from other birds

have seen this bird sitting on a stick like this since childhood. Bird watchers call it a sea bird. You cannot see these types of birds without water bodies. There is a deep relationship between waterfowl and cormorants. They are mainly fish predators and have evolved to live in water bodies. If you put them in a dry place other than water they may not survive and may die because they are used to living in water and have evolved that way.

The species you see in the images above is completely black. There are other species that are black and white in color. But most of the feathers are black in color. Their physical structure may vary slightly depending on the species. Some variation can also be observed in the color of their feathers.

Although they are seabirds, they prefer to stay on the coast and further inland from the seashore. Wikipedia says that the earliest ancestor of cormorants was a freshwater bird. I still see them living in fresh water. In fact, they seem to be more comfortable living in fresh water. I think they prefer fresh water as well as less salty water.

Cormorant's main food is fish. Some snakes living in water are also their favorite food. We have plenty of fish here for their food. They wait and rest on the bamboo sticks provided by the fishermen for the fish to eat. During winter it takes the heat of sunlight and dries their wings.

They first dive into the water while hunting and move underwater with their legs and catch fish with their beaks. Many say they use their wings to move underwater. Yes they use both their legs and fins to move underwater.

Cormorants nest and lay eggs. I haven't found any of their nests so far. I can see the nests of other birds easily but I don't know where the Cormorant actually nests. Perhaps they prefer tall trees for their nests. Basically these birds live here for six months because there is water in our reservoirs here. After six months when the water dries up, they disappear from our area because they need water bodies for food. I won't see them during the dry season, but when the monsoons come and there will be water all around, they will come back and we will see them again. Animals roam everywhere in search of food, and the cormorant is no different.

Yes, you are right, birds are hunted by humans and humans pose a threat to their existence. We need to prevent it
