In the next few days, the whole world would be painted red with the celebration of love. It is that time of the year again when new fire of love is started and the old one rekindled with gifts, sweet words, music, and whatnot. This is us saying 'happy celebration' to those in love. It is another edition of STEMng digest. Let's get started.

Who are we?

STEMng is the Nigerian sub-community of the stemsocial community, a community that has been supporting stem authors on the hive blockchain for about four years now. While stemsocial focuses on everyone irrespective of their country, STEMng is specifically for Nigerians. The best of stem contents published by Nigerians on the Hive blockchain is highlighted on weekly basis.

Sincere apologies to our audience for getting this edition out a little bit late. Things sometimes get busy on the other side. The posts that make this week's selection are as follow:

  1. @noble-noah: Venomous Snakes with no Fatal Threat to Humans

Starting our selections for this week is a post about snakes from an author that is quite familiar to everyone in the community. Nigeria is a country that falls within the tropics and thus, characterized by an abundance of plant and animal biodiversity of which snakes are a major part. However, many of us do not have pleasant experiences with snakes due to the poisonous nature of their bites. Well, not all of them are poisonous where some of the bites of some of the poisonous ones are not fatal to humans. How we'd get to know the non-fatal from the fatal ones remains a problem, however.

2.@clinton19: The Dark Universe

There are so many processes going on around us that we cannot observe or see ordinarily. In actual fact, some particles are only known to exist in theory, and the only way to confirm their existence is to find another object or particle to detect them due to their interaction. This is why the world of physics/cosmology is filled with a lot of darkness - black holes, dark matters, dark energy. The author in this post threw more light on the darkness.

  1. @oluwatobiloba: The Science behind your Sleep Habit

The sleeping habits of humans vary - from normal sleeping habits to extremely weird ones. How do you explain a man waking up in the mood of the night to commit murder, goes back to sleep, and then wakes up at dawn not knowing what transpired in the middle of the night? That would make for a good movie, right? But it is quite possible with some humans with weird sleeping habits in real life. The science behind sleeping habits makes for a good read by an author who making her debut as fat as STEMng digest is concerned.

4.@cyprianj: Washing of red blood cells, a possibility or not; How and why?

Everyone understands the need to wash their clothes, cooking utensils, or other objects when necessary but not in this world would some have thought about the washing of blood. Well, this is one of the beauties of content consumption on Hive. In this post, what could warrant the need to wash the red blood cells of humans was discussed in a rather comprehensive manner. Not just that, how the washing is done was also explicitly explained. Now, go over and and feed your curiosity.

5.@hillaryisidore: When spleen is surgically removed (splenectomy): what could be the faith of covid 19 patient

Capping this week's selection is this interesting post on the role of the spleen in the body system and what its surgical removal could mean for the individual concerned. While the post looks like the normal day-to-day medical posts we see on Hive on the surface, the content is quite educative and an eye-opener to those that are not in the medical line.

If you are a content creator on Hive and wondering how you can participate in the community, all you need to do would to:

  • Write original content or make a video
  • Make it as interesting as possible
  • Adopt beautiful layout/formatting
  • Personalize your writing (it is social blogging, remember)
  • Use copyright-free images
  • Include references (facts over fiction)
  • to increase the likelihood of being discovered, use the tag 'stemng'.
