Los Angeles Bioluminescence Compilation
Bioluminescent glowing blue waves in Los Angeles, Red Tide 2020.
When conditions are right or sometimes wrong the algae off the coast blooms and can create Red Tides. When the algae gets excited by the movement of the wave it triggers the bioluminescence. The more algae there is the more light there is.
Over the last few weeks, I went to both Venice Beach and Santa Monica beach with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4k to film the Bioluminescent glowing blue waves. It was such a sight to see and what's even crazier is that my camera could see the glow even better than my eyes. I filed a couple of hours worth of footage and wanted to share some of the best bits here on youtube. It was really hard to narrow the shots down so I decided to make a longer
compilation video.
I hope you all enjoy and comment below if you had a chance to see this awesome sight and where you saw it.
The footage is owned by me. Please do not use any of it without my permission.

Woah! Very cool. I was lucky enough to be in San Diego when this was happening years ago. I swam in the water, kicked the sand and it all exploded with light. So beautiful.
In the future, we should only post things here if it's related to the business or process of filmmaking or a project you've completed. So, can you describe how you photographed this? Settings, camera, etc?
Thanks for posting! Sorry to be a stickler. :)
Sure. I can add the process and details.
Thank you!
Awesome! seeing those algae is on my bucket list.
Thanks! It took a ton of time to film. Over 10hrs of footage and a long time to render haha. Glad you enjoyed the video and it was for sure a cool thing to see.
