WHAT ARE SPIDERS?🧠👨‍🏫, QUE SON LAS ARAÑAS???🕸🕷

IMG_8547.JPG

Spiders are a very abundant group of arthropod animals throughout the world, of which approximately 45,000 different species are known. They are the largest order of the Arachnida class and are distantly related to other groups of arthropods, such as insects. It is also one of the most diverse groups, ranking in seventh place with respect to the rest of the organisms with respect to their diversity.😶😮

Spiders have a body divided into two parts called tagmas, and they have four pairs of legs. It is known that during prehistory there were some spiders that could measure 50 centimeters, but currently the largest that exists is 30 centimeters in size. As a general rule, they are solitary animals and predators of small insects which they can hunt through very varied techniques. Some, in fact, have powerful poisons which a small amount can kill a human being.😁😁😋😋😎😍😃😃😅😅😅😅😅😆😆💥💥💥💥💥🌏🌎🧭💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

IMG_8578.JPG

Also referred to as folcids, long-legged spiders or candle-faced spiders due to the appearance of the cephalothorax, it is a spider of the Pholcidae family. Females have a body length of 9 mm; males are slightly smaller. Its legs are 5 to 6 times the length of its body (reaching a wingspan of 7 cm in females). It is used to living on the roof of rooms, caves, garages or cellars, which gives it one of its common names.😮😮🤔🤔⛪🏡🌄

Identifying the place where the spider is captured and its anatomy is important for its identification, spiders are known in the animal kingdom for their spider webs that by any other ability, they have basically served as inspiration for a large number of films, including the famous arachnophobia that you probably saw when you were little! The truth is that despite their dark appearance they play a great role in our ecosystems, they are great pest controllers since most of them feed on insects, including cockroaches in your home! So if you see one, don't kill it!😏😏😏👨‍💻👩‍💻👨‍🔬👨‍🎓👩‍🏫👨‍🏫😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮🤩🤩🤩

I don't have a macro lens because I specialize in photographing birds, but I made a very good purchase that I can recommend I buy a set of magnifying glasses that go from +2 to +10 magnifying the image 10 times than my lens, which is an 18mm !! ! This spider has a very small body so I can't get a very close photo but I can achieve good results with my magnifying glasses! by the way I want to add that do not kill this spider is dead in the corner of my window!😏😏

Originally from a species restricted to temperate areas of the western Palearctic, thanks to humans, this synanthrope is distributed throughout the world. It is able to live in cold climates, and therefore, it is limited to living in houses only in some areas. Pholcus phalangioides tends to shake its web violently when disturbed as a defense against predators. They can easily hunt and eat other spiders (even ones that are larger than it, such as Tegenaria duellica), mosquitoes and other insects, and mealybugs. When food is scarce, practice cannibalism.😶🤔😥

To summarize the video and edited this photo, placing the main characteristics that help us to identify Pholcus, as any arachnid is comprised of four pairs of legs which gives us a total of 8 individual legs, the cephalothorax has a body divided into two tagmas. and the abdomen! It is a little aggressive spider, that lives in the corner of our houses, in adult it can reach 7 to 10mm in length! as you can see in the photo they have an eye pattern corresponding to 8 ocelli! or "simple eyes"🤔🤔

The six pairs of appendages mentioned above are inserted into the prosoma, as well as the simple eyes; on the ventral side the mouth is opened. Chelicerae have a single joint, between the base, which is very bulging, and a generally small distal nail (at the end), and they usually carry poisonous glands. When not in use, the nail is usually more or less protected within a groove of the basal artery.😮😮😮

The latest research shows that the hairs on their legs are so sensitive that they can detect human speech from several meters away. The apical junction is a kind of tusk in arachnids that is classified in the form of a "razor" and they serve to hold the prey and inject poison since in many spiders the venom glands are connected to the cheliceros!😶😶

The pedipalps are similar to the legs, but they do not rest on the ground, but they are raised in front of the body. Males of many species use pedipalps to court females, in which case they can be large or showy, and also as a copulatory apparatus, introducing a bag of sperm, the spermatophore, into the female's body.😋😋

Here we can see two holes located in the abdomen! The rows are the appendages that spiders have, whose function is to support the glands that produce silk. They can be found at the end or the middle of the opistosome and The cribelo is an organ of spiders that is found in front of the rows, and is presumed to be the homologue to the eighth pair of rows of primitive spiders😶😶

Subsequent research showed that the spiders could hear clapping from more than five meters away and that they were more sensitive to low frequencies (around 80-130Hz), which would correspond to the flapping of parasitoid wasps, a jumping spider predator, or the tone of a very deep male voice.😏😏

Respiration is carried out by internalized organs, normal in animals of aerial life, which in this case are book lungs or philotracheas (sometimes called book tracheae), one or two pairs that open in the median and ventral part of the anterior opistosome . They have a folded structure, which multiplies the exchange surface, and through them the hemolymph circulates channeled through vessels. Many spiders also have a tracheal system that is not homologous to that of insects.🤩

The circulatory system is of the open type, as in all arthropods, with a tubular dorsal heart located in the anterior dorsal part of the opisthosoma, on the surface of which its presence is marked by a cardiac groove. It is possible in some cases to perceive their beats, from 30 to 100 per minute, more numerous in the smaller spiders.♥🩸

Hemolymph is pumped into the heart from a pericardial cavity and projected out of it with energy. The high pressure has been interpreted as a sign of a hydraulic function, which could play a role in the movement of the legs, so that when their legs die they contract due to the lack of blood circulation.😮😮

img_8578.jpg

img_20210628_121528.jpg

img_20210628_122513.jpg

All spider species produce silk, a material made up of complex proteins, which they use for a wide variety of functions: hunting and wrapping prey; as an adhesive for other construction materials for tunnels, hatches, etc; as areas of locomotion, as well as many other utilities. Certain species of spiders create a long thread that serves as a sail to be blown by the wind.💥💥 .

img_20210628_122829.jpg

img_20210628_122952.jpg

The wind guides them either to hunt their prey or to go in a certain direction. This phenomenon is known as arachnid flight. At the posterior end of the abdomen are the silk secreting glands called rows, which produce a fluid that solidifies on contact with air (the fluid is a concentrated solution of proteins, whose structure transforms just before leaving, becoming a insoluble form that rapidly dehydrates and constitutes silk fiber).😏😏

untitled_1.jpg

"Spider silk is very strong and flexible," says Catherine Scott, an arachnologist at the University of Toronto at Scarborough. "It is also usually very clean and has antimicrobial properties, because spiders don't want molds or microbes to grow on their webs." Some spiders, such as those on the 300-million-year-old Mesothelae branch, dig burrows in slopes and banks and fill them with layers of gauze-like silk. These spiders then build circular doors - like those of the hobbits - that even have a silk hinge. Thus, spiders hide from predators and can catch their prey off guard. The doors isolate them from the outside world, so that they can control the temperature and humidity of the burrow and even protect themselves from flooding.😮😮

img_20210628_123617.jpg

img_20210628_123712.jpg

In a recent study published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B: Biological Sciences, Scott showed that male black widows can detect these suggestive odors from almost 60 meters away and use them as a compass to find the female. What's more, Scott's research revealed that some males can catch up with a female even faster by following the strings left by other males before them. Males are also capable of sniffing and distinguishing the silk of their rivals from that of males of another related species, the false widow.😋😋

img_20210628_123815.jpg

img_20210628_123930.jpg

Silk can also be used to tie a female during courtship. This is called a "bridal veil." Oddly enough, this behavior could make the female more receptive to mating, as the sensory hairs brush against the male's pheromone-filled silk.💖💖

Saludos!!

The photos of that spider are incredible, and I really like how the macro photos turned out, I use my cell phone and a magnifying glass to take photos of insects and flowers, and for smaller photos where you can see more of the insect's parts, I use an optical lens from a damaged DVD we had in the house. But the truth is that I love your photos and I have learned a lot more about spiders with the information you gave in this wonderful post.

Greetings!!!
