WILDLIFE ON MY LAWN

Today, in search for some cool and easy photographic catch not far from home ...

... I pointed my macro lens at the mix of self seeding plants on my lawn.

It ended up to be a pretty successful macro expedition :) with some interesting species in the very limited little jungle between the house and the street.

I don't know the name of this plant with small pinky flowers ...

... but I know that my small Pavement ants (Tetramorium caespitum) find these flowers very attractive.

They start the feeding at the entrance of the structure, there is some food there too ...

... but to take the advantage of everything the flower is offering, the ants must dive deep into it.

This wild bee, I don't know the exact species, is also here for the nectar of this plant.

It's a very small species, much smaller than the domestic bee.

Here is another small bee ... in the center of the yellow flower ...

... on this dandelion - like plant that covers large patches of terrain around my house.

You can always encounter a nice variety of insects around this plant ... like this small Leaf beetle, ad example ...

... or this minuscule Lady beetle.

The Nephus redtenbacheri ladybeetle.

I can't tell you much about this small, obscure lady beetle species.

This, a bit larger wild, solitary bee, approximately the size of domestic bees is feeding on the same kind of flower. You can see some lovely pollen pearls on its thorax, the sign that the bee visited the Mallow plant of the Malva sylvestris species.

These flowers regularly appear on my lawn ...

... in between two trimmings ...

... along with the bindweed ...

... and a variety of yellow species ... like this one ...

... this other one ...

... and the dandelion - like flowers you already saw in the posts.

This spiders can be seen only early in the morning ...

... resting on the flowers.

Then, when the day gets hot, spiders disappear in the shade among the leaves.

Here is another small leaf beetle ...

... that likes to hang around clover leaves.

Here you can see the colorful nymph of the Nezara viridula shield bug ...

... camouflaged in the green.
