Insecto: Extatosoma tiaratum

Cuando estuve en el monte hace unos días, me sorprendió un poco esta especie de insecto. Bastante único y raro en mi opinión porque esta es la primera vez que encuentro esta especie. Al principio pensé que era una especie de escorpión porque su cola curvada me hizo dudar en tomarle una foto.

When I was in the bush a few days ago I was a little surprised by this one insect species. Quite unique and rare in my opinion because this is the first time I have found this species. At first I thought it was a type of scorpion because its curved tail made me hesitate to take a picture of it.

Debido a que encontré una especie rara, finalmente opté por observar primero el movimiento de este insecto antes de decidirme a tomar algunas fotos. Y después de un tiempo observé a este insecto, comenzó a sentirse un poco mejor, parecía que ya no luchaba por escapar. Fue entonces cuando decidí hacerle una foto aunque todavía tenía algunas dudas. :)

Because I found a rare species I finally chose to observe the movement of this insect first before deciding to take some photos. And after a while I watched this insect, it started to feel a little better, it seemed that it was no longer struggling to escape. That's when I decided to take a picture of it although I still had some doubts. :)

El insecto al que me refiero es Extatosoma tiaratum, o también conocido como el insecto de la hoja espinosa. Característicamente, este insecto a primera vista parece un escorpión, y tiene algunas espinas en las patas y la cola. A continuación he subido algunas fotos del insecto hoja espinosa. The insect I mean is Extatosoma tiaratum, or also known as the spiny leaf insect. Characteristically this insect at first glance looks like a scorpion, and there are some spines on the legs and tail. Below I have uploaded some photos of spiny leaf insect. Here are some photos:
