Frog Beetle | Sagra buqueti
These photos were taken in a forest in North Aceh. The frog beetle (Sagra buqueti) is a beautiful beetle that I found. This is a little perplexing; the name is somehow related to the frog. The beetle's hind legs appear to be longer and larger than the other legs, giving them the appearance of frog legs.
The beetles have an iridescent metallic copper-red color that is most noticeable on the elytra (the hard pair of forewings that shield the hind wings).
I'm not sure what this beetle eats, but it appears to suck up sap from the stems of young plants. This is just my guess; If you have any information, please let me know.
