Cosas de cubanos: El Paquete Semanal // Cubans' issues: The Weekly Package

🌞 Buenos días para todos, espero que estén bien y disfrutando esta mañana de lunes.

Se dice que los cubanos somos únicos en el mundo, ya sea por nuestra personalidad alegre y divertida, nuestro espíritu trabajador o por nuestra insólita manera de vivir y resolver los problemas con mucha creatividad. El mundo del entretenimiento no está exento de esto, pues para nosotros los cubanos la manera en que consumimos cine, música, shows, entre otras cosas, es muy diferente al resto del mundo, pero como siempre buscamos la forma de hacerlo.

A todos nos gusta disfrutar de una buena película o serie y escuchar la música que nos gusta. ¿Qué opciones tenemos para esto los cubanos? Bueno, tenemos la televisión. Nuestra programación no es muy variada, tenemos pocos canales de televisión y son pocos los programas donde ponen películas o series extranjeras, y la mayoría del tiempo son un poco viejas. Con esto quiero decir que si en el mundo hay un estreno de alguna película o serie, no esperes verla en la programación nacional, y si la ponen ya habrá pasado varios meses desde su estreno.

Además no tenemos acceso a servicios de streaming como Netflix, HBO Max, Disney +, entre otros, dependemos de lo que nos ponen el TV. Es por esto que los cubanos prefieren cada vez más el paquete semanal, del cual les hablaré más tarde.

Estos son los canales de la televisión cubana

Los canales son:

• Cubavisión
• Telerebelde
• Canal Educativo
• Canal Educativo 2
• Multivisión

Además de estos, tenemos otros canales que solo pueden verse mediante la programación digital, a la que no todos tenemos acceso. Estos son:

• Canal Infantil
• Canal Habana
• Cubavisión internacional
• Canal Clave
• Canal Caribe

La otra opción para ver películas sería el cine. Sí tenemos cines en Cuba, en cada provincia hay más de uno, pero los únicos estrenos que proyectan son de películas cubanas. O sea, sí ponen películas extranjeras, son las que priman de hecho, pero no al mismo tiempo que se estrenan en otros países. Para ver una película nueva tenemos que ser pacientes y esperar de una semana a un mes o más para que la película llega nuestro país. Hablando de ir al cine, el único que quedaba funcionando en la ciudad de Pinar del Río hace rato que está roto, cosa que me duele pues siempre me gustó ir al cine a ver películas, de hecho mi primera cita con mi esposo fue en ese lugar. Nada, otra razón más para preferir el paquete semanal.

En cuanto a la música, si no es por el paquete no podría tener acceso a la música de mi preferencia, que es la música en inglés. Esto se debe a que en la televisión, los espacios musicales mayormente promueven la música cubana, que, respetando el gusto de cada cual, no me gusta. De igual forma en las discotecas solo reina un tipo de música específica, un género muy cubano: el reparterismo. No sé ni cómo explicarlo, simplemente lo detesto, son letras llenas de groserías, es más ruido que música, pero es lo que prefieren los jóvenes hoy en día. Solo en la radio ponen música actualizada y en inglés, tanto clásicos como moderna.

Este es el radio de mi abuela, el cuál pone cuando está cosiendo.

Toda esta situación es agravada al no tener un amplio acceso a internet, por lo cual no podíamos bajar música o ver las películas en línea. Gracias al paquete puedo tener acceso a los videos y nueva música de mis artistas preferidos y conocer a los nuevos que van saliendo.

Entonces, ¿qué es el Paquete Semanal? 🤔

El Paquete Semanal, también conocido como simplemente El Paquete, es un compendio de información digital y audiovisual es que existen Cuba desde 2008 y que se creó como una alternativa a la televisión cubana y como sustituto del internet, al que pocos tenían acceso. El paquete nos da la posibilidad de ver nuestras películas, series y programas preferidos, ya que no solo incluye los estrenos sino también muchas películas y series clásicas.

¿Qué incluye el Paquete?

El paquete es muy variado y trae muchas cosas para ver y todo viene muy bien organizado en carpetas. Entre las cosas que incluye el paquete están:

• Películas
• Series
• Reality shows
• Concursos de participación
• Telenovelas
• Música y vídeos
• Actualización de antivirus
• Deportes

¿Cómo tener acceso al Paquete?

Como lo veo hay dos formas de acceder al paquete. La primera opción es ir directamente a la casa o local donde copian el paquete, le das tu memoria a la persona encargada y le pides que te copian lo que tú quieres, ya sea alguna película, serie, novela u otra cosa. Siempre le puedes pedir a esa persona que te da alguna sugerencia de que copiar o preguntarle que vino de estreno. Cuando la copia finaliza te devuelven tu memoria y te cobran según la cantidad de información que copiaste. Si no tienes suficiente espacio en la memoria para copiar todo lo que deseabas, puedes ir tantas veces quieras en la semana a copiar lo que desees. También puedes llevar tu disco duro y pedir que te lo copien todo, pues el paquete viene en un disco duro de un terabyte de información.

La segunda opción es hacerte cliente de la persona encargada de copiar y distribuir el paquete. En tal caso te traen el disco duro ,dónde está la información del paquete, hasta la puerta de tu casa y te dan 4 horas para copiarlo, ya que tienen otros clientes que también esperan para esto. Para tener este servicio solo debes tener una computadora y el costo es de $50 semanal.

Al principio solo podía optar por la primera opción, pero una vez tuve mi laptop opté por la segunda, ya que es mucho más cómodo que te traigan el paquete a tu casa y 4 horas me sobran para copiar lo que me interesa. Cada cliente tiene un horario diferente para copiar, en mi caso, es todos los viernes a las 3 de la tarde. Ya de por sí el viernes es un gran día, es el último día de trabajo y empieza el añorado fin de semana, agreguen a eso la alegría que siento cuando me traen el paquete, pues ansío saber si ya están disponibles las películas o series que esperaba y ver que vino de estreno.

¿En qué orden reviso el Paquete?

Bueno, lo primero que hago es entrar en la carpeta de Telenovelas para copiarle a mi abuela, a mi mamá y a mi tía las telenovelas que ven. Luego ya me concentro en lo mío y entro a la carpeta de Series, dónde puedo ver las series que veo en transmisión, o sea, que salen una vez a la semana y también otras de estrenos que entran completas. Además, siempre hay una carpeta de Series clásicas donde cada semana van poniendo por temporadas alguna serie vieja. Gracias a esto he visto por segunda vez algunas de mis series preferidas como Teen Wolf y Once Upon a Time.

En este último paquete vino la primera temporada de La teoría del Big Bang, definitivamente la voy a volver a ver, ya era hora 😁.

Luego de las series voy para la carpeta de Animados, donde reviso a ver si hay alguna película nueva que me llame la atención o algún clásico de mi niñez.

Estos son algunos de los animados que los niños pueden disfrutar en el paquete, ya que hay opciones para todas las edades.

Después voy para la carpeta de Filmografía, en donde hay muchas películas organizadas por carpetas y géneros. Primero reviso los estrenos en HD y luego voy carpeta por carpeta viendo si hay algo que me interese. Me gustan mucho las películas documentales, las comedias, las de terror y las de ciencia ficción.

Luego copio algunos shows que veo como La voz y El reto, y después copio la actualización del antivirus.

Lo siguiente en mi lista de prioridades es la música y los vídeos, donde me actualizo un poco con nueva música, ya que siempre descubro algunas joyitas en las listas de éxito como The Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart y Billboard Hot 100.

Por último, entro a la carpeta de Interesantes, donde copio cosas variadas de canales de YouTube, principalmente copio cosas relacionadas con el mundo del cine, así como trailers de películas.

Cuando termino de copiar todo, mi hermano se pone a copiar lo que a él le gusta. Siempre dividimos la pantalla de la laptop para que sea más fácil el proceso.

En fin, el paquete semanal es el mayor entretenimiento audiovisual que tenemos los cubanos y ha llegado para quedarse, pues aunque nuestra programación nacional sigue haciendo esfuerzos por mejorar, la verdad es que aún no cumple las expectativas deseadas. Sobre todo, necesita de propuestas más atrayentes para el público joven.

The world of entertainment is not exempt from this, because for us Cubans the way we consume movies, music, shows, among other things, is very different from the rest of the world, but as always we find a way to do it.

We all like to enjoy a good movie or series and listen to the music we like. What options do we Cubans have for this? Well, we have the television. Our programming is not very varied, we have few television channels and there are few programs where they show foreign films or series, and most of the time they are a bit old. By this I mean that if there is a movie or series premiere in the world, don't expect to see it on national programming, and if they do show it, several months will have passed since its premiere.

In addition, we do not have access to streaming services such as Netflix, HBO Max, Disney +, among others, we depend on what the TV shows us. This is why Cubans increasingly prefer the weekly package, which I will talk about later.

The other option to watch movies would be the cinema. We do have cinemas in Cuba, in each province there is more than one, but the only premieres they show are Cuban films. In other words, they do show foreign films, they are the ones that really take precedence, but not at the same time that they are released in other countries. To see a new movie we have to be patient and wait from a week to a month or more for the movie to arrive in our country. Speaking of going to the movies, the only one that was still working in the city of Pinar del Río has been broken for a while, which hurts me because I always liked going to the movies, in fact my first date with my husband was in that place. Well, just another reason to prefer the weekly package.

As for music, if it wasn't for the package, I wouldn't be able to have access to the music of my choice, which is music in English. This is because on television, the musical spaces mostly promote Cuban music, which, respecting everyone's taste, I don't like. In the same way, only one specific type of music reigns in discos, a very Cuban genre: reparterismo. I don't even know how to explain it, I just hate it, the lyrics are full of profanity, it's more noise than music, but it's what young people prefer nowadays. Only on the radio they play up-to-date music and in English, both classical and modern.

All this situation is aggravated by not having wide access to the internet, for which we could not download music or watch movies online. Thanks to the package I can have access to the videos and new music of my favorite artists and meet the new ones that are coming out.

So what is the Weekly Package? 🤔

The Weekly Package, also known as simply The Package, is a compendium of digital and audiovisual information that exists in Cuba since 2008 and it was created as an alternative to Cuban television and as a substitute for the Internet, to which few had access. The package gives us the possibility to watch our favorite movies, series and programs, since it not only includes the premieres but also many classic movies and series.

What does the package include?

The package is very varied and brings many things to see and everything is very well organized in folders. Among the things included in the package are:

• Films
• Series
• Reality shows
• Participation contests
• TV soaps
• Music and videos
• Antivirus update
• Sports

How ​​to access the Package?

The way I see it there are two ways to access the package. The first option is to go directly to the house or place where they copy the package, give your pendrive to the person in charge and ask them to copy what you want, be it a movie, series, soup opera or something else. You can always ask that person to give you a suggestion of what to copy. When the copy is finished, your pendrive is returned to you and you are charged according to the amount of information you copied. If you don't have enough pendrive space to copy everything you wanted, you can go as many times as you want in the week to copy what you want. You can also bring your hard drive and ask them to copy everything for you, since the package comes on a hard drive with a terabyte of information.

The second option is to become a client of the person in charge of copying and distributing the package. In this case they bring you the hard drive, where the package information is, to the door of your house and give you 4 hours to copy it, since they have other clients who are also waiting for this. To have this service you only have to have a computer and the cost is $50 per week.

At first I could only opt for the first option, but once I had my laptop I opted for the second, since it is much more convenient to have the package delivered to your home and 4 hours is more than enough to copy what interests me. Each client has a different time to copy, in my case, it is every Friday at 3 in the afternoon. In itself, Friday is a great day, it is the last day of work and the long-awaited weekend begins, add to that the joy I feel when they bring me the package, because I am anxious to know if the movies or series that I was expecting are available.

In what order do I review the Package?

Well, the first thing I do is go to the Soap Operas folder to copy the soap operas my grandmother, my mom and my aunt watch. Then I focus on my stuff and go to the Series folder, where I can see the series that I watch on stream, that is, they come out once a week and also other premieres that are complete. In addition, there is always a folder of Classic Series where every week they put some old series for seasons. Thanks to this I have seen some of my favorite series like Teen Wolf and Once Upon a Time for the second time.

In this last package they put the first season of The Big Bang Theory, I'm definitely going to watch it again, it's about time 😁.

After the series I go to the Animated folder, where I check to see if there is a new movie that catches my attention or a classic from my childhood.

These are some of the animated ones that kids can enjoy in the package as there are options for all ages.

Then I go to the Filmography folder, where there are many movies organized by folders and genres. First I review the HD releases and then I go folder by folder to see if there is something that interests me. I really like documentary films, comedies, horror films and science fiction films.

Then I copy some shows that I watch like The Voice and The Challenge, and then I copy the antivirus update.

Next on my priority list is music and videos, where I catch up a bit with new music as I always discover some gems on the charts like The Official UK Top 100 Singles Chart and Billboard Hot 100.

Finally, I go to the Interesting folder, where I copy various things from YouTube channels, I mainly copy things related to the world of cinema, as well as movie trailers.

When I finish copying everything, my brother starts copying what he likes. We always split the laptop screen to make the process easier.

In short, the weekly package is the greatest audiovisual entertainment that we Cubans have and it is here to stay, because although our national programming continues to make efforts to improve, the truth is that it still does not meet the desired expectations. Above all, it needs more attractive proposals for the young public.
