Audiovisual nos explica de manera dinámica el índice de refracción y el ejemplo en una muestra de vidrio y algunos ejemplo de indices en diferentes medios.

Las ondas electromagnéticas de cualquier frecuencia viajan en el vacío a la misma velocidad, c= 3.00x10elevado a la 8ms-1. En un medio material la velocidad v depende de la frecuencia de la onda, pero siempre es menor que la velocidad de la luz, c en el vacío, el cociente entre esta velocidad es el índice de refracción del medio, como v nunca es mayor que c, n siempre es mayor que la unidad.
