I've still got a book I ordered from a magazine ad and there is stuff I still play that I learned back then. I still have a load of the magazines that I have been mining for ideas. The online offering can be overwhelming.

I did cut back on my online learning and tried to focus a bit because you are right it can be too much and you spread out too thin.
I just remembered from my first guitar book, Bobby Shaftoe! lol. Probably couldn't play it now
