Healthcare About To See A Major Transformation
The last decade saw a big advancement in healthcare with the digital health technology.
But, as the old saying goes, "you ain't seen nothing yet".
The next 10 years are going to see a lot more progress. There are a number of technologies all converging upon the world of healthcare that will alter almost every aspect of the overall health system.
Five technologies stand out:
- Artificial intelligence
- Sensors
- Quantum Computing
- Chatbots
- 5G
We are going to see the pace of drug discovery sped up, hopefully bringing down costs. Artificial Intelligence allows for the prospect of running formulas in simulation which could cut research time down by 2 years. Since there is over a billion dollars spent bringing a drug to market, the savings could be enormous.
Personalized medicine is another area we should see major changes. With the likes of Google, Apple, and Samsung looking to enter the sector, we are going to see sensors that monitor and upload all our vital statistics.
Chatbots will be the first like that patients interact with. Covering everything from scheduling to handling basic questions, our dependence upon these messenger applications is only going to grow. AI is going to play a big part in this.
Quantum is going to affect all areas as will 5G. The later is going to provide us with a far-advanced digital health network. This will increase the speed of communication and improve security. Quantum enhancements will make data safer by being stored in qubit for as opposed to written.
Healthcare costs around the world are exploding. Many countries are having problems determining how to pay for the services that are required. This is only going to grow as some countries are facing aging populations which naturally require more services.
Technology tends demonetize the industries it enters. This is a potential positive considering the debate over healthcare costs. By pushing costs down while improving services, it is a winning situation all around.
Some are expected to make an impact relatively soon. The projection is for 5G applications for healthcare to hit the market in 2021.
