Self-Spreading Vaccines Are In The Pipeline - What Could Possibly Go Wrong?!

One major setback for those pushing the vaccine method of immunity is those pesky unvaccinated. Some people just don't seem to want to play ball. Well, there could soon be a fix for that!

As this transmissible vaccine spreads from animal to animal, it immunises them against the target infectious disease, vastly increasing immunity within the animal population and reducing the risk of spillover to humans.

The technology for developing transmissible vaccines now exists, and field trials focused on protecting wild rabbits from a viral haemorrhagic fever using this technique have showed promising results. Efforts are now under way to develop prototypes for several important human pathogens, such as the Lassa and Ebola viruses. - New Scientist[1]

The technology is only to be suggested for use in animals at this point. The theory is that by giving such a vaccine to a bat for example, it can self spread the vaccine to a large proportion of the bat population and thus help in stopping viruses jump to humans.

For infectious diseases that originate in wild animals, like covid-19, SARS, MERS and Ebola, one solution is to prevent the transmission to humans in the first place.

A complementary approach is to target the infectious agents that carry these diseases by reducing their prevalence or eliminating them within wildlife populations. - New Scientist[1]

This vaccine would work exactly how it sounds, you take a bat from the wild, vaccinate it, release it and then the vaccinated bat would spread the vaccine to its social circles. So in other words, exactly how a virus is believed to spread.

Now, aside from the fact that many believe viruses cannot jump between species, as well as serious questions behind germ theory itself - doesn't this sound a little dangerous to you?

Do we really know the far-reaching consequences of this down the road?

What if such technology was in the wrong hands (if it's not all ready...).?

While the technology is still in its early days, it has been used, and development funding is growing exponentially with the likes of The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation already funding research into the field.

If you are interested in reading more on this, I recommend a great piece from thebulletin.org[2] who have gone far more in depth to the concerns surrounding the technology.
