Assetto Corsa - A misspent evening

avatar

Well the planned early night never happened. I sat down for a few laps on Assetto Corsa and that few turned in to a near full race distance. I think I completed 47 laps - many of them were terrible! This wasn't great but it was the best I could muster. A 120.006.

It may pay off if you ever need to drive that track. Hope you didn't crash too much.

I don't think there's much worry of that :). I crashed LOADS.

I saw James Hunt and Niki Lauda race at Brands Hatch along with most of the greats. There was a super 8 film of myself and my uncle along with footage of the six-wheeled ELF Tyrol but sadly it disappeared when my grandfather passed away.

I find there's something romantic about motorsport but I do feel it's losing its magic at the top level. Hunt and Lauda are before my time. I used to pop to Silverstone after work on a Friday after work; I worked in a factory that closed at 13:00. That was the late 90s when Coulthard, Irvine, Häkkinen and Frentzen were racing. Used to lob a quid in a charity bucket to hear the V10 and V12 engines at 17,000 - 19,000 rpm for Friday practice.

God I feel I’m approaching “when I were a lad”.

I suspect Jackie Stewart is right in that we were all excited about Formula 1 because pretty much every race someone died. It did seem somehow more exciting up until the 90's I watch it now and again although not as religiously as I did when I was a kid. ;-)
