Edutainment Reminiscence

Out of habit and old bookmarks, I first posted this on Steem. I beg your forgiveness as I repost and expand it here.

I ran across this gameplay video of The Learning Company's classic Super Solvers OutNumbered while browsing vintage game reviews on Youtube. Talk about a nostalgia overload! The PC audio music and sound. That accursed Telly and LiveWire. Those cheesy puzzles.

I still have fond memories of this game. Apparently I may be alone in this. This may have been the first game I had, but the original Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego may have that honor, too. After some cough decades, I'm not sure. I think I still have the floppy diskette around here somewhere. Now you can play the game online via the Internet Archive's browser-based emulator, though.

What educational software do you remember from your school days? This, WITWICS, and a version of The Oregon Trail on an Apple II were major influences on me back before I discovered real-time strategy games like Lords of the Realm II, Command & Conquer, and the original Age of Empires.

As retro graphics become a popular aesthetic, now may be a good time for these old games to see a bundled re-release on Stream or GOG. In a few years, I may have to get my niece into these old-school adventures, whether through such a relaunch, or via DOSbox and the original diskette files.

Halloween costume idea: red high-tops, bermuda shorts, a big sky blue jacket, and a red ball cap plus a 3d-printed shell for my smartphone preset to play sound effects and classical MIDI. No one will get it, though.

I can't wait to see that costume!!! (Given the opportunity, I'd even help assemble it.)
