Hiding Potentially Toxic Oils In The Mix

Restaurant chains around the world are rapidly adopting meatless menu options into their operations, a variety of vegan and veggie menu alternatives are coming to your favorite places.

But are these going to be the healthier options even though they might be meatless or veggie?

One leading cardiologist recently analyzed a variety of those meals and concluded that they might be more likely to cause health problems, particularly a heart attack, because of the unhealthy oils the vegan and veggie options are made with.

That cardiologist, Dr. A Malhotra suggests that these vegan and veggie meal alternatives are filled with high levels of potentially harmful oils, along with plenty of sugar and salt.

Malhotra refers to the oils as toxic oils, including industrial vegetable oils and seed oils like soybean oil, sunflower oil, and corn oil.

“You can be a healthy vegetarian or vegan (but) if you go for processed options like these then it is not a very healthy way to eat and you are even more likely to suffer heart problems.” - Dr. Malhotra

Previous research has found connections between soybean oil can fuel genetic changes in the brain.

Researchers suggest that it might also contribute to obesity and diabetes, even fuel neurological conditions as well like Alzheimer's disease and more.

These vegetable oils are marketed as healthy alternatives but scientific research is increasingly questioning that narrative, investigation into those products suggests that they might increase the risk of heart disease.

The vegan food market alone is estimated to be worth upwards of $14 billion, and this has come about with the rise of companies like Beyond Meat bringing their products to restaurants in various places. It is estimated that this market might reach $34 billion or more within the next few years.

Interestingly, many of those who are opting for the meatless burgers might not even be vegetarians or vegans, but people who are simply looking to make more plant based options.

Beyond Meat has continued to grow in recent years and has now been looking to make their products more affordable in an effort to compete with and capture more from the meat-eaters market.

For those who are opting for the meatless burgers and veggie burgers etc, thinking that these are healthier options on the menu, you might still want to take a look at the other ingredients included.
