One More Benefit To Sugar-Free

In recent years, as more people have tried to rid their diets of excess sugar, it has prompted an increase in products that are sugar free and this of course includes gum.

Today, Wrigley's Extra and Trident are considered two of the most popular sugarless gum options on the shelves, but there are a myriad of competitors in the market too. To be honest, there are a variety that are arguably much higher quality than those two as well.

Chewing gum is a billion dollar industry today, just in the United States alone. Overall, chewing gum represents at least 11 percent of all retail candy sales.

The rise in gum sales comes after a continued decline, which has some saying that gum is making a comeback.

What has been suggested as contributing to the climb is the increased advertisement of the supposed benefits associated with chewing gum.

For example, previous studies have suggested that chewing gum might be able to save millions every year in the way of dental treatments if more individuals chewed sugar free gum after consuming food.

Sugar free gum, researchers suggest, has been known to help prevent decay.

Aside from possible health benefits associated with consumption, another factor in boosting sales has been the innovation of different flavors that have added more excitement into the market.

You can find gum with flavors like pumpkin spice pie, birthday cake, gummy bears, root beer float, apple pie, rainbow sherbert, strawberry shortcake, and much more.

According to one study which reviewd scientific literature on the subject across the past 50 years, researchers have concluded that chewing sugar-free gum might help to potentially reduce the deterioration of cavities and could be used as a potential preventative agent for many.

It has been shown to reduce the risk of deterioration of dental cavities by at least 28 percent.

Still, they are planning to investigate the topic further and admit that there was a great deal of variability. The sugar-free gum market, along with the sugar-free market in general worldwide, is expected to continue growing in the years to come.

The market for sugar-free gum alone is expected to surpass $14 billion by 2023 and now the sugar-free variety holds more than 50 percent of the global gum market.

Still, chocolate is the dominant candy product for the candy market. The sugar-free trend has made its way there too though, with more bars being introduced with sugar alternatives.

The overall chocolate market is valued at more than $130 billion and sugar-free chocolate options still have a long way to go before they capture at least 50 percent of the market.

For those who are looking to find more sugar-free products though, they will be eager to reap the benefits of these growing markets by having access to more and hopefully better products in the long run.
