Alien Worlds on Netflix: Decent: it is pure speculation of course though

This new short series on Netflix focuses on the possibility of life on other planets and the huge numbers of stars that we can see from here on earth. This was particularly interesting to me because of the fact that when you look at the sheer number of stars that we can see from Earth it is pretty presumptuous if not arrogant of us to presume that out of the trillions of planets that must exist out there that there are some people that still presume we are the only one that has intelligent life on it.

This series attempts to explain what life could possible be like on these other planets, which are totally made up and simulated with CGI in an entertaining but completely fictional way.

I have always been intrigued by the cosmos and when I was in college I had a very religious GF that I would be at ends with on a constant basis because according to her (and a great many other people) the ONLY place that has life is Earth. I don't have a problem with this belief because it is one of the only things in this and many other religions that can actually be observed as far as the belief system is concerned. However, I do find it to be extremely arrogant in terms of what it is that we can see with our technology in the night sky even now.

I don't remember the actual numbers but back when I was in college minoring in physics the amount of stars (suns) that we can currently observe the numbers are astronomical (pun intended) and of those trillion billion stars that we can see, it is presumed that a great many of them have some sort of habitable atmosphere and land of which life could have a chance.

To anyone that isn't a toddler it should be quite evident that the footage of these "other planets'" life is obviously CGI, but it is done in a very lifelike and informative manner that is actually very educational. They trick you into understanding some fundamental aspects of physics that most people might not ever think about such as the fact that gravity is the driving force behind what sort of life is possible in certain environments.

While all of the presumptions about life on other far-distant planets are simply that (presumptions) the way in which they exhibit what life could be like on other planets in comparison to the only one that we are 100% certain actually does have life on it is very informative. They refer to various creatures on our planet that are able to adapt and draw conclusions to various organisms that are able to live in environments that the average person wouldn't even think about for the most part.

Take the above picture for example: This appears to be a CGI presentation about some uninhabitable place in the cosmos but in fact, this is a place that exists on earth that is called "the gate to hell" that scientists are very intrigued by. But yet, despite the desolate surroundings, this is a place in Ethiopia that life (although it is very very small life) exists in.

The idea behind this show is to showcase the majesty of the endless (as far as we know) expanse of space and to present some hypothetical situations as to how life could possibly be on distant planets.

It is more sci-fi than reality, but the information that they present is filled with factoids that you will actually end up learning something from - and in my mind that is always a good thing.

There are a few "experts" that are thrown in there that lecture us about energy sources used on earth such as a guy who is named a "futureologist" - which isn't a real thing - where they do some sort of anti-fossil-fuel usage PR something or other that I found annoying... but it is Netflix, so it is kind of expected of them to do something like this even though it lacks relevance into the rest of the production.

Should I watch it?

I think if you are into science that there is a better chance that you will enjoy this than the average viewer but I think that this production transcends to people who don't even have an interest in that sort of thing. The speculation is exactly that - speculation. Nobody featured in this documentary series has any idea if what they are stating is true but it is a real eye-opening to ponder to possibilities that they present therein.

I don't remember what the show was but I would say that this is worth watching because "you just might learn something!" and for me at least, that makes this even more entertaining.

If you are a Sci-Fi nerd (like me) I think you will find it wildly entertaining. If not, I say give episode 1 a try and see if you can take it from there.
