And launching the JMK Academy

For a while now I have had a membership option on this site. There is a member benefits category that only members can access and it is typically video content. These include various un-boxing videos, how-to videos, etc.

In fact at the end of every how-to post, there is a video showing all the steps that I went through with commentary, these are only accessible to members.

I created a landing page outlining the benefits to membership and everything that you get here.

What I get by you being a member

Why am I doing this? For the feedback. I want this site to be a first source for information when it comes to design of systems that reduce diesel consumption. For the electrical design of industrial and institutional power systems.

To do that properly, I need to get feedback on the content that I am putting out there, but it needs to be constructive. When I had comments open to everyone I would spend more time curating and deleting spam than I did creating the original article. By adding the step of registering and becoming a member, that removes the vast majority of the spam sign-ups.

JMK Academy

Now the bigger news

I'm launching the JMK Academy this summer. When it launches there will be the long forgotten Arc Flash Analysis Development Course, Getting Started with VTScada Course and several skills tutorials.

I have created a page here that outlines all the various content types, what they provide etc.

Paid only

These short and long courses, webinars, etc will all be paid options only. Currently I have only annual membership available for the Skill Based membership. This is where I will be focusing my effort at first, then switching to the Apprentice level and finally releasing the Professional level in 2021.

Until the end of July I am keeping the annual price at $250, that's a 50% discount from what I'm planning to fully launch with. The sale ends on July 31, 2020.

When you sign up you get that price for life (or until you let the subscription lapse)

Limiting signups

I'm also limiting the number of members that I am accepting at the start. I want to make sure that everything is operating great before we open up to more people.

The first launch will be for only 100 members, and I may decrease that if there are operational things that I missed.

Skills Tutorials

The purpose of the skills membership level is to allow everyone the same base before moving on to the other membership levels. This ensures that the concepts that I will be building on in the courses are understood.

These will be things that aren't typically taught in school, but rather are taught on the job. The first five lessons are going to be:

These are very basic ideas, but the lessons will go into depth about the reasons the rules are written the way they are, the limitations of the rules, and how to apply them.

I expect the tutorials to be take about 1hr, 45 - 50 mins of lesson and a quiz. The structure of the lesson portion is still in flux, but they will either be a series of short videos or one long video.

There will also be a PDF download summarizing everything that you learned and a printable certificate of completion when you pass the quiz.
