Apps and Commentary

A look at the previous 90 days Comments - Which Apps are they being used to write them to the blockchain and what are you using to commentate?

A Post and a Comment are in essence the same, but for the sake of this submission, a comment is anything added to the chain that is not at the top level - with a depth of > 0.

Following on a little from @crokkon's interesting work yesterday, I'm looking at comments made by source application, over the previous 90 days.

The pie chart above shows the top 19 comment sources over the past 90 days, the and the remainder being summed into 'Others'.

Although the time periods are different when compared to @crokkon's 7 day analysis of top level Posts, it seems that less people use steemit.com to commentate than provide a post.

NULL is 2nd in the list, and I'm assuming that these are mostly automated comments via script - someone may have the answer?

@waivio's appearance made me go and have a look at some of the accounts producing comments there:

https://steemit.com/@asd09/comments

I'll give benefit of the doubt and put this down to testing :)

Humans V's Bots

I'm not really sure if the people are winning this one. If you sum the NULL, waivio, rewarding, comments-scot (?), teamcn-shop bot, and beem comments, this total is 39% of all the comments made over the past 90 days, but there are likely more from the complete list below:

Where are you commentating from?

It's no secret that I have a couple of tribe tokens and accounts, and so I was wondering what my engagement looked like from the many interfaces on offer these days (90 again).

I've tallied up the results from the accounts I use, and so if you would like a pie chart similar to the one below, provide me with a list of the accounts you wish to include. For brownie points, a list in the format below will save me a little time:

'abh12345','abh12345.ccoin','abh12345.stem','abh12345.pal','abh12345.leo','abh12345.photo','abh12345.medi','abh12345.porn','abh12345.life','abh12345.spt','abh12345.battle','abh12345.ggame','abh12345.sports','abh12345.neox','abh12345.marlian'

Not the most interesting of pie charts. A good portion of my comments of late have been made on the phone, and I'm only logged into one application from there. There is some use of the apps though.

AppCount
steemit1574
sportstalksocial194

splintertalk18
steemace7
dporn7
lifestyle5
battlegames3
naturalmedicine3
steemleo3
creativecoin2
dpoll1
marlians1
photostreem1

Anyone have a more interesting Pie chart to share?

Scanning the list of Apps above, is the Bot share of commentary > than 39%?

Cheers

Asher

I did think about changing that sentence to be a bit more specific, but glad I didn't now - bring on the pies!

On an unrelated note.

I often use Steemit for commenting still. Not sure why other than habit.

I just find the replies/comments feed easy to navigate, and I've not been arsed to login to other apps on the phone, yet.

Same here. I am logged in to a few, but there is something simple enough for my mind in Steemit.

I suspect my chart will be predominantly Partiko and Steemit, but I'm game - let's have a look please.

'sparkesy43','brickmanbrad','tokengesture'

Sure thing, thanks for stopping by :)

As thought, almost all steemit and partiko.

I actually wonder if part of the reason is that some of the tribe interfaces lack functionality - the inability to search on some is a bit of a bugbear of mine. It's also quite frustrating on Partiko, but that one is convenient on the mobile phone so I put up with it.

A decent search has been a long-standing problem - I find older posts are best located with google.

The NULL app in the json spells automation?

I looked at your pie chart and went straight to the 1 percent on Dporn lol.

I feel like Im a bit schizophrenic on the old commenting...

Are you pie charting peeps? Yes please. Xxx

Mostly peaches and complaining about abuse :)

Likely less than 1% for other than steemit. I have logged into steempeak, and a few of the others, tribes and communities but I think they are all still reside in steemit, not sure on that). So there may be one or two comments from creativecoin sites or maybe one or two from steemspeak, but not many at all. Steemit crash times would account for any comments outside of steemit mostly.

I’ll forgo the pie seeing as I’m on the bus and you are fairly sure of the result. It’s the bus rides like today that lead me to accumulate most of my comments on Steem.

I use steempeak, because I am used to it now.

And I think it has the most user friendly interface

That's dead cool @abh13345. I'd love to get back on the saddle and do some steem analysis. So much has changed on the block in the last 12 months.

Interesting about the nulls. Nice find 🤓

Thanks Paula.

Crokkon gave me the motivation to do a bit, but the time spent even for something quite brief makes it tough at present.

You should though, lots to get stuck into with so few of us presenting.

Wow! 2,000 comments? How do I find out how many I made. Tell me this place I can look. Pretty please.

The charts are disappointing to me with all the automation involved. Le sigh. I am still hoping we can have a little more human interaction going on here.

It is getting too quiet.

So, very quiet. Oh! I just saw that I ditched the League this week! I'll run over and catch lucky #9! Sorry~

Have a great Tuesday!

Over 90 days I would expect yours to be much higher 😁

I’m not sure where you can check actually, but I’ll have a look later for you when I’m home - dangerous replying on the bus though, I might need another comment from you to remind me!

@abh12345 Hey, Asher! It's silly of me to make you go through the trouble of trying to find that info. Don't worry about it. It was nice of you to offer and after thinking about it, it is not something I need, it was just a curiosity. Thanks! You are the bests!

Well I couldn't resist!

30 days = 1559
90 days = 3246
180 days = 7574
265 days = 16196
Lifetime = 45075

Plenty!

a little more human interaction

Denise, it can be more in absolute figures... but automation-generated ones will beat that figure... (one may consider that AI comments as a 'white noise', I think..)

It amazes me how few people use steempeak and how many people still use partiko.

I think it really just goes to show how much of creatures of habit we are.

Yes we are. I’m replying on Steemit on the phone, mainly because I’ve yet to log into another app on this device.

It being an app of its own is attractive I guess, also some people probably don't realize smts and tokens are already here at steempeak

Pretty interesting study. I am shocked, but not surprised, to see ~half of comments are coming from bots.

Thanks!

I suspect it is closer to half if you include the rest of the list. I don’t think all the bot comments are a negative but it would be nice to have the humans comfortably ahead. Cheers!

This is interesting! I didn’t even know some of these existed. I’m finally getting involved more with some of the newer development because when I saw how the token market and communities are integrated, the whole vision of steem finally made sense to me! I can’t believe I put it off for so long! Using Palnet today, naturalmedicine yesterday....exploring all these community front ends. I imagine more and more of the front ends will double up as communities? Wavio....guess I need to check that out. Beem? Rewarding? Hummm

Thanks for this!

I read a post from you recently on the natural medicine tribe which I enjoyed - good to see people finding a home and getting a feel of what communities will offer. The tribes have also given plenty of food for thought in relation to SMT - good times hopefully on their way 😁

It's good to know some people are reading even when there are no comments 😆 Thanks!

So these are not technically SMTs?

No they are not SMT, but there is likely going to be the opportunity for the SE tokens to switch to an SMT when they are released.

And personally, I think the most promising ones would be wise to do this - I wrote a bit about it on this post under 'SE / SMT / @steempress'

It really surprises me Steempeak is so far down the list, and SteemIt is still number 1.
But what surprises me even more, is that dinosaur SteemIt is your number 1 app...
I never use SteemIt anymore. I even have the redirect plugin installed that allows me to switch to Steempeak from most other front-ends. I think it's way more user-friendly.

As a result, no need for a pie this time. I still don't engage as often as I should, but 100% of my comments are done through Peak. (Although I make my posts through neoxian.city, to escape the city tax and because they allow 15 tags.)

0

What can I say, I like dinosaurs 😁

It’s mainly because, like today, I’m busy replying on the bus and steemit.com is the only app bar sportstalk that I have logged into.

I suspect that communities may pull some users back to steemit.com, that is until the likes of steempeak bring out something much prettier.

I suspect that many posts are not posted through Steemit but that the posting scripts use the same app string in order to be seen as a real person.

Like @simplymike, I use Steempeak too. Rarely Steemit.
