The Role Of Technology In Motivating Learners And Educators

You will agree with me that the rate at which technology is advancing in this era is so astronomical and it has also delivered its benefits to people. In almost everything that humans are doing now, there is an influence of technology in it. Technology has come to influence almost every aspect of the human life and this is the reason why I believe that technology can be used to one's advantages. There are many things that can capture the interest of the learners and make them to be more piqued to learn. The truth is that you can motivate through technology, which involves a lot of ways, like through social media, and other multimedia and digital tools to simplify and enhance the learning process.

Before this era, classrooms were seen as physical gathering of students to acquire learning. Well, the emergency of technology has created a paradigm shift. Take this instance; during the lockdown of the year 2020/2021, a lot of schools were on lockdown and the only option left was the electronic learning environment (or the virtual classroom system of learning) and you will agree with me that it worked out well. As a matter of fact, even now that the lockdown has been long lifted, some schools still offer the virtual classroom model. This is to show you how powerful technology has become.

Apart from the e-classroom system, technology has also been incorporated in the learning system to give more clarity to learning. I once saw a video documentary of a school that uses a virtual simulation of the real world environment to teach students about certain topics, and this is not surprising the level of knowledge they will be able to pass on to the students. Of course, what people see and hear (their audio-visual perception) form a large part of how they understand things. That is, you tend to learn more when visuals and other multimedia are incorporated into learning.

There are some aviation schools that while at it, before being tested with the real plane, you will be made to fly a simulated one in a controlled environment. The consoles and controls will be modelled after a real plane and the flight simulation will be projected on a screen. So after you have successfully gotten your way through the simulated one, you will be exposed to the real thing. But before the advent of simulation technology, it would have been different, and every test flight will be done with the real plane. Of course, this will expose the student-aviators to undue risks.

Another role that technology plays when it comes to learning, especially the technology of multimedia as incorporated in learning process, is that it facilities engagements between the students and the teachers. For example; when teaching and you bring in multimedia presentations, media charts, etc, the students will be more piqued to engage more than when you just stand before them and read out lessons from a note. More so, people tend to learn more when they become more engaged in the learning environment, and technology can help to achieve that.

A friend of mine shared the experience he had with his kids with me. One of them had difficulty with learning new words as he was meant to. Then the teacher advised him to get a kiddies tablet for him and install some recommended gaming tutorials for him. Some of them are designed like a fun game (like a word puzzle game), but as the kid play it, it will expose him to more vocabularies and with time, he will get better. He tried it and the result was very impressive. You will agree with me that incorporating technology to learning will make it less boring and more enjoyable.

Technology has also made learning and instructional materials readily available. In this era where Internet technologies are becoming increasingly popular, there are now many tools that can enable easy learning. For example, there are software materials, adaptive programs, Artificial Intelligence, etc, that can come in handy to make learning experience a whole lot of fun. However, one should also know that, as much as technology has its obvious advantages and benefits, there are still some downsides to it. In view of this, caution should be applied when incorporating technology into the learning process so that it will not become counterproductive.

Peace on y'all
