The fight against global warming

avatar

One of the subjects I teach and am very passionate about, is science. The last few lessons about greenhouse gasses and global warming, struck me hard, and made me think. Are we doing enough to try and save our planet or do we just leave this for other people?

Everywhere there are organizations that save the whales, and save the Rhino's- which are all brilliant ways to save the environment, but do YOU as a human being living IN this environment do enough to make a difference?

What is global warming?

Due to our over excessive use of natural resources, which is fueled by population increase and economic growth and material possessions, this is causing great damage to the environment.

Humans are the earth's greatest danger and with the burning of fossil fuels it causes a build-up of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which trap heat and cause global warming.

We might not see the effect of global warming now but what about future generations? How long would the earth be able to sustain itself, if we do not start NOW to make a difference?

That is not the biggest problem. We are wiping out the marine life in the ocean, we are destroying rain-forests and other wild ecosystems. Fertile land is turned into deserts by over farming and pollution. We are polluting our water, our soil and air with toxic chemicals that are dangerous to both us and the wildlife. If you think about it realistically we are busy killing ourselves one day at a time.

It's time to wake up and smell the coffee!

The damage is done already, but there is still hope. If we make more people aware of the problems, then we can turn this around. Thousands of people are becoming green and there is a vast amount of ideas out there that can help YOU make a difference.

  1. Make people aware! The impact of your actions goes further than you think. You may inspire other people to make their own changes.
  2. Live with less. The vast amount of environmental problems are ultimately due to our demand for new things. We all want the new car, the clothes and the gadgets, but those things all eats up raw materials and energy. When you can't live without something, then try to re-use it, and if you can't then at least recycle it.
  3. Try and create less waste. Make sure that when you buy products, you buy containers that are Eco-friendly and that can be used for something else.
  4. Use green alternatives. Don't use plastic bags. Use a bag that can be used more than once. Buy local and organic products. Even though they might be a little more expensive you will be healthier and once you are in the habit of focusing on this, you won't even notice the difference.
  5. Do what you can! Even if you don't live completely green, the little changes that you make, will definitely make a difference in the long run.

It is time to make the change NOW. It takes three weeks to create a habit. Just take three weeks in YOUR life to start and make a difference.

I hate global warming. It's too hot today so I turn on Amy AC and enjoy. However, that's a serious bandaid solution.
It's important to think critically about these issues

I think I talk more about plastic and pollution than I talk about anything else in class, time to rip off the bandaid and find a more solid solution.

We really all need to start doing things to change our habits! It is scary when you really dig into some of the science on global warming, but of course there are still so many people who turn a blind eye to it. There needs to be some huge changes on the global scale, however if all of us start just doing the little things it all adds up. I am definitely constantly trying to learn how to do more on my own end of things. I've got a few solid habits down now, but I think it's time to add some new ones to my daily life!

The best you can do is to spread the word and to make others aware. Kudos to you for taking on new habits to help save the world.

This has been worrying me for some time now since I've been informed on how much more carbon dioxide we are creating as to what this earth can handle at a time. We all really need to pay attention to this. This is truely what is making the earth go through major changes resulting in more disasters. This year and last year has been quite hot in the north and definitely above normal. The white pines I have in my yard are struggling, I've planted trees and shrubs last year to help create more shade and only 3 out of a dozen survived. It was just too damn hot and the winter her lasted too long, it slipped spring and went straight to summer. It's really odd and a lot of farmers, growers said that this year is a really stranger year for growing plants. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for my garden. Hoping it turns out ok.

The weather all over the world including the seasons are changing. I unfortunately do not have green fingers at all. I will keep my fingers crossed for your garden, the only plant that ever survived me is a little plastic plant next to my bed and unfortunately I am not saving the planet with that....lol!

Thank you. I do see hope for it. And if things keep going and worsening, plastic plants will be the only things we can have that won't die in such harsh weather's. 😉
