Welcome to the weekly "Sustainable News". There is a lot being done by countries, corporations and individuals to help our planet and change our behavior.

This Blog post aim to get you up to date with the new initatives !

Things are moving fast and our planet says: "THANK YOU !"

Sustainable finance and solutions

Danone pledges $2.2 billion climate plan and for the first time prices carbon emissions into its quarterly earnings (MarketWatch)

  • Danone is planning to invest €2bn over the next three years to fight climate change through agriculture, energy, packaging, and digital technology, and will further start to report a “carbon adjusted” earnings per share figure in an effort to link ESG metrics with financial performance.

Sustainable finance and solutions – Foodtech:

Impossible slashes prices by 15% for distributors (RestaurantDive)

  • According to a company release, Impossible Foods is cutting prices to distributors by 15%, with the reduction enabled by “manufacturing efficiencies and greater economies of scale” in a move that aligns with the company’s stated goal of lowering prices to reach price parity and eventually undercut the price of conventional ground beef from cows.

Sustainable finance and solutions – Plastics:

'Turn the tide': Clamp down on plastic straws, stirrers, and cotton buds moves forward (BusinessGreen)

  • Single-use plastic bans in England, which were proposed by Theresa May back in April 2018 and meant to be in place by April 2020, could soon come into force as the government tabled legislation in Parliament earlier this week that would heavily restrict the supply of single-use plastic items. As the EU is set to ban a whole variety of single-use plastic items, many businesses have already been phasing them out voluntarily.

Sustainable finance and solutions – Waste:

There is green gold in shorter supply chains and reshored rubbish (FT)

  • An opinion piece arguing the case for reducing the dependency on key manufacturing hubs such as China and South Korea by creating shorter supply chains, as disruptions from climate change related events or the current coronavirus have shown how susceptible current supply chains are to disruption. . The author argues that the new producer responsibility schemes which are set to be introduced over the next few years in the UK and EU could stimulate local demand for reprocessed materials as well as companies “reshoring” as the cost advantage of using suppliers from areas with lower environmental standards is removed.

The news about a manufacturer actually cutting prices to ensure wider distribution is actually really exciting and very "new paradigm" thinking.

Nice job on the macro-picture update - there is SOOOOO MUCH good happening in the world!
