Checking out @makinstuff's Solar Survival Trailer

I got to see inside of this trailer I have heard so much about. Its a two wheel travel trailer that had been covered in solar panels on top and the sides of the trailer. With this amount of solar input, he can produce almost two kilowatts of power. In comparison, my solar setup with one panel produces 100w or 0.1 kilowatts at best.

He uses a bank of 6V deep cycle golf cart batteries to get over 48V in DC power. He then uses a power inverter to get AC power from his setup. Using his panels and battery banks he can run his air conditioning on his camper for a few hours. Or heat his camper for a few hours in the cold winter nights. I used his solar power to make my coffee in the morning, using my percolator and blender we enjoyed some buttered coffee. Along with keeping our devices charged it, it has alot of utility. This trailer can be brought almost anywhere and provide instant power to those in need. Think about the possibilities after a natural disaster. A few of these would provide alot of utility to those where the grid failed them while an emergency was occurring.

In the mean time, @makinstuff is planning on taking his Solar Survival Trailer to some conferences to show it off and encourage others to build some solar projects as well.

Maybe ill build one of these, would be a great way to power a campsite offgrid and knowing a friend that has done it gives me alot of confidence to try it myself. Maybe in the mean time ill clean up my solar setup, as I really impressed by his work on the trailer and gives me inspiration to improve what I already got. Even if its just one 100w panel using one DC 12V battery. I know my fuses and the outside switch could use some work so I already have some improvements planned out for myself.
