The world’s first floating nuclear power station, the ‘Akademik Lomonosov,’ was captured on its way to the Pevek harbour in Chukotka, footage released on Friday shows.

The floating nuclear plant is 144 metres (470 feet) long and 30 metres (100 feet) wide, houses two nuclear reactors and is named after 18th-century Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov.

So many questions. First, what purpose does it serve?

... was captured on its way to the Pevek harbour in Chukotka ...

And who captured it?

As far as I understand, it's Russia's way of providing power to areas in frozen tundra, including offshore drilling platforms. I guess it's difficult to maintain traditional power grid in those harsh areas.

As for was captured part, I think it's a confusing sentence. I thought it's saying they captured it on footage. I don't think any entity, save the Russians themselves, is foolish enough to jack that vessel.

How interesting I didn't know such a ship exist, most likely it's purposes are not disclosed to the public... But it's an amazing peace of technology!

They say it's a mobile nuclear power station.

Not many countries will like the idea of a mobile nuclear reactors sealing nearby their coast... But so far I have not seeing the usual rampage on main stream medias

I guess that’s why this is sticking close to Russian waters.
