Was STEEM your 'gateway drug' into crypto?
Was STEEM your 'gateway drug' into crypto?
The basic mantra of Bitcoin maximalists is usually, that everything besides BTC are shitcoins, not worthy of anything.
While I do see Bitcoin as a great store of value, this world-view of nothing besides it matters is very short-sided, in my opinion.
Altcoins actually drive quite a lot of value to BTC, by providing use-cases and entry points into the whole crypto-sphere.
And in that sense, I believe STEEM has driven quite a lot of value, bringing hundred of thousands into contact with blockchain & crypto.
Hence this poll is there to see, how many of you got hooked into the whole crypto-sphere, because of Steem (or maybe not)
Please vote via dpoll!
If you'd like to support this poll, feel free to resteem it.
Thanks,
Wolf
- Yes! STEEM was the my first cryptocurrency I interacted with and it got me hooked on crypto.
- Yes and no. I was already familiar with cryptocurrencies, but STEEM was a major reason why I got hooked.
- No. STEEM had pretty much influence on me.

I just followed you as u seem like a interesting person and I have used steemit 3 years ago and now am back after long time
I stopped using steemit before I didn't really knew how it really works and now am back and trying to learn about it.
I really want someone this time to help me get familiar with steemit and I will be glad to get your help if u wanna help me :)
Make a post about yourself using the hashtag "introduceyourself" then you will get plenty of people offering to help you learn about Steem.
This was my introduceyourself post, as an example: https://steempeak.com/hive-120078/@atma.love/who-am-i
Note: Steem is not Steemit. Steemit is just one of the webpage front ends you can use to post, comment and upvote on the Steem Blockchain. I highly recommend you use steempeak.com instead of steemit.com. steemit.com is now owned by Justin Sun who's criminal actions (co-ercing/bribing exchanges to vote for fake witnesses) to make a hostile takeover of Steem, have caused many issues recently.

it is kinda hard to answer because i guess most heard about crypto and knew something about it when they got to steem.
I knew about btc and some other coins, but steem was my IN for crypto. it was my first coin that i owned. from steem i got to my first btc (not really more like satoshis).
also i am still mostly Steem in crypto. i use it every day. don't have a lot of money to invest in crypto (i did throw some small amount to btc) and i don't have the time to daily trade that small amounts, so steem looks logical choice.

Do you love Steem?
-Yes.
-Worshiping it.
-You can not understand my love about it.
I wonder that. Don't you have any other cryptos?
Isn't it easier to mine Steem as miner/witness?
Don't you think the bigger capital manipulate the platform?
Aren't they use people's inferior complexity?(I will slap you if don't have more than me) =)
(A social platform where people are humiliated)
Please Don't take this comment wrong.(May be a little humorous)

I knew about Bitcoin and I knew I wanted some, I also knew I had missed the phase where people could just mine it. So, Steem gave me a way to learn and get involved as well as more time to understand.
Due to my time on Steem I bought my first Bitcoin at $695 in November of 2016

Started with Bitcoin, cause I head about this cool fancy internet money was making people bank. Got in low, sold high, made a nice profit.
Then, the programmer in me found Ethereum and fell in love. A blockchain... WITH CODE?!?!?! I sunk my profits into CryptoKitties and in the end broke even, luckily.
I had a brief period where I heavy diversified. I invested in BTC, ETH, LTC, SALT ( made a legit nice profit from that one, got out before it went into the shitter ), etc.
While perusing different cryptos to invest into, I stumbled upon Steem. Never before had any other coin got me so interested, so quickly. I think I was only browsing here for less than 3 days before I went & told all my family + friends about it. The social aspect is what got me most interested!
Steem may have not been my "first" love, but it is differently my strongest ;^)

In my case, I bought BTC first, traded a bit, then found about Steem and immediately joined and stayed as soon as I read what it was about.

f u for leaving me on the smartsteem black list! I am unvoting u for witness! Thanks a lot douchebag! Therealdouch is u!
That blacklist wasn't maintained ever since Smartsteem moved away from post promotion and probably shouldn't be part of the Global Blacklist anymore.
With this said; next time just contact me without the insults.

I came to Steem searching for a censorship free platform to create an equitable worldwide governance network. On Steem i found The Matrix-8 Platform, which was like a dream come true. It took me about 2 weeks before i was able to buy some BTC which i immediately exchanged most of into STEEM as i saw and still see the huge potential in Steem, especially if it adopts adopts a real-time Democrity as a governance system. The Matrix-8 Platform, to be built on Steem is just that and will solve future potential Justin Sun type issues and many more, as well as bringing BILLIONS of users to Steem. I invite you @therealwolf and everyone else who reads this to PLEASE find out more about The Matrix-8 Platform: https://steempeak.com/hive-153630/@atma.love/some-links-about-matrix-8-platform-by-atma-love
Let's "save the world" together on Steem!
