Near Future: Nanofabricators that could make anything

Changing the world with a nanofabricator that could make anything including an exact duplicate of itself.

the year 2040 sees the beginning of worldwide distribution of kits to make a “nano-fabricator” able to take “dirt, air and water and a bit of cheap, carbon-rich acetylene gas”, manipulate atoms and molecules, and “produce anything you want, virtually free”. Since each of these can make a copy of itself, everyone has one by 2042.

Damn. That's twenty years from now. If I live that long I'll be ninety years old. Not entirely impossible. My father in law lived to be a hundred and five. Still, it's a bit much to hope for.

Burke continues, pointing out that nano-fabricators will thus eliminate the need for infrastructure and for government, and that the resulting abundance will eliminate the need for crime,

Will abundance eliminate psychopaths. Without government what will they do? Is mental health nature or nuture?

nanofabricators “will destroy the current social, economic, and political system, because it will become pointless,”

How a Machine That Can Make Anything Would Change Everything

Nanofabricators: The Creation Machine That Will Turn The World Upside Down Forever In 25 Years

What happens to the world trade markets when every home has a nanofabricator capable of turning electricity and plentiful raw materials into finished products? Food is just a combination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, phosphorus, same as any medical drugs. You don’t need to buy clothes when you can manufacture them yourselves. And if we fully adopt renewable sources of energy around the world as we’re attempting to right now, if every home has solar panels and batteries enough to be self-sufficient, what then do you buy and sell on a daily basis?

Damn. I'll be 95 then. You youngsters don't know how good you have it or how good you WILL have it. The 'good old days' are today, and tomorow.

Ray Kurzweil predicted 2025 as the most likely year for the debut of advanced nanotechnology, and that one of the earliest applications will be advanced medical nanorobots.

There's HOPE. With medical nanorobots it follows that general health will improve and geriatric health will improve drasticly. Life extention will be a thing.

Now where did I leave my cane?

Awesome post and quite a bit of technology in our future.

I'm wondering where we will be at in 10 years myself.

With all the advancements in modern medicine you never know we might actually start to expand our lifespan.

Here is to hoping!!!

before Obama was elected the lifespan in the US was increasing. After he was elected not so much. It got better when Trump was in office then got MUCH worse when Biden stole the election.

Here's hoping it get's better soon.

Well because stress is the number one killer when you are stressed out about the State of affairs and world you have much poorer health.

That would be the reason why cannabis users are always happy and never have too many stresses so they are able to just laugh and have a stronger immune system because of it.

Some important tricks to life like number one if you are more easy going you have a much longer health span.

Really wish somebody would hand out a user manual for being human....

You want a users manual for being human? I wanted a users manual for raising my boy. Talk about stress.

I've had to work with some potheads. "Yeah...you go ahead and do the work. I'll just sit here and chill out." he said

"But...if we don't get this finished it's gonna freeze and we're all gonna die!" I sez

"Coool . Everyone dies. Just chill. OK?" sez he.

Actually I'm the other way around I smoke a couple of bowls in the morning and get motivated to go do something.

And I've got this crazy puppy dog that's not going to let me chill out. I think he really enjoys the smell because sometimes he'll put a snout in the cloud.

Well it's better than having an alcoholic puppy. A friend of mine had an alcoholic dog and it was just the worst ever. Always running away getting into trouble and fights and eventually one day it didn't come back. And my friend was a really poor dog owner so.... Maybe that was for the best

However my puppy dog is super amazing and I got to take him out to go do some runs here.

Hopefully you are having an amazing day today.
