Voice Summit Awards Titles

One of the projects I recently wrapped up was the show titles for an award show. The awards revolved around voice activated device tech, so things like Alexa, Portal, and a bunch of others I've never heard of. Some of the sponsors included Amazon Alexa, Microsoft, Samsung and a bunch of others that again, I'd never heard of.

The client had a basic concept of paint splatters. That was pretty much all they gave me and then they just let me run with it. Can't really ask for a better situation than that as a creative. I usually like some sort of direction, but I appreciate the freedom to design and expand on the concept. I think it works out better for everyone that way. You wouldn't tell a chef how to cook your food would you?

So I used a ton of fluid simulation in Cinema 4D via a plugin called Realflow that specializes in fluid sim.

During R&D I played around a lot with how to get interesting splashes and how I could make my digital "paint" look interesting. Here's a few images from that early exploration.

There was also a lot of animation testing to play with what the fluid would actually be doing.

In the end I went with a consistent theme with some variations in flow and colors, but the overall flow was some sort of splash or flow into a bullettime like slow motion, then the titles would animate on. Something along these lines.

All in all it was a really fun project.

In other news, I bought a bunch of CCC. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was thinking about going in on that one since it's something I could see myself using and manually curating as things progress. So if you're a creative type and I follow you, make sure you're using the #creativecoin tag so I can have some stuff to curate. Be on the lookout for @midlet-creates.

I might get a bit deeper into this in it's own post, but looking at the value of the SE tokens and the value of the upvote you get relative to your investment, if you want to earn on Steem by posting and curating, it makes little sense to invest in Steem proper. Even if you weren't really into a tribe, and you just sold everything you earned for Steem, you'd make more by investing in a SCOT token, then selling all your earnings for Steem. That's a bit depressing...

Anyway, hope you like my paints that aren't actually paint!

Dude, these effects are awesome. You are truly skilled.
Love that concept.

What are the chances you can do visual effects like this artist http://www.extraweg.com?

Have you tried animating animals or is it more objects that you’re experienced in?

Thanks @ashtv! :) I can do some stuff sort of like that, but not at that level. Pretty sure that artist is probably using Houdini which is a bit more technical than the tools I use. There's a lot of softbody dynamics and simulation work happening there and the tools in Houdini for that are SUPER powerful, but they're also a lot more complex. I hope to get more into it one day. :)

Sounds like a fun project! And we loved the minimal direction briefs too 🤣 those paint splatters that aren’t paint look awesome, did the client love it? They better have 🤣

I’m using creativecoin!

There’s a lot getting airdropped at the moment, I’m currently staking whatever I’m using and whatever people I care about are posting in and a couple that sound like they might be my thing if I had time to have more things. The rest I’ll sell eventually.

Great, beautiful work love the vivid colors. Wish I had the budget and health to invest in these since I don’t I love seeing someone else’s hard work. Hope the client was satisfied with the result.

This is all magic to me as I've never done animation myself :-) Looks cool though - any reasonable open source software you know that I can play around with?

Thanks @soyrosa 😊 Yes, Blender is a super powerful and free/open source 3D package. There’s a huge community around it as well so there’s plenty of learning material.

Cool - I'll try it and see if it something that clicks for me :-) Thanks for the tip!
