Scientists Warn Virus Cases Disappearing to Fast For Meaningful Vaccine Studies

Scientists working at the Oxford based Jenner institute in the UK are racing against the clock to try to create a coronavirus Vaccine before anyone else, obviously for the good of mankind and not the enormous profits such a vaccine could reap.

Reports that Oxford was proceeding to the second stage of human trials for its coronavirus vaccine, which would see the number of participants rise to 10,000 people, were met with optimism.

Oxford’s Jenner Institute is working with drug company Astra Zeneca to develop a vaccine.

The government projected that the vaccine, if successful, could deliver 30 million doses by September.[1]

However, there is just one problem - the virus is dying out and scientists are concerned that any chance of doing a meaningful trial for a vaccine is dying out with it.

...scientists involved with the study have given interviews with separate London-based newspapers warning that initial projections may prove to be optimistic.

The main issue, they say, is that the virus may be disappearing too fast for the studies to produce “meaningful results.”[1]

Finally, they stated that they were in a unique position where they actually wanted COVID-19 to hang around a bit longer:

"We’re in the bizarre position of wanting Covid to stay, at least for a little while. But cases are declining."

Not entirely sure what they are worried about, since when do vaccines need to be effective?
