Directed Energy Weapons and Targeted Individuals

Directed Energy Weapons

Since the Cold War, governments have been developing electronic weapons that can remotely harm people in a variety of ways. The website I work for has a good summary of the history of such technologies. In recent years, diplomats all over the world have been struck by mysterious illness called 'Havana syndrome' after the first cases were reported at the US Embassy in Havana in 2016. The latest reporting suggests that the 1,000+ people with symptoms of the syndrome weren't victims of such a weapon. For example, a Washington Post piece from the beginning of this month was titled ''Havana syndrome' not caused by energy weapon or foreign adversary, intelligence review finds.' But this contradicts previous news reports about the probable origins of Havana syndrome.

Here's a quote from a 2020 New York Times article on the subject:

"The most probable cause of a series of mysterious afflictions that sickened American spies and diplomats abroad in the past several years was radiofrequency energy, a type of radiation that includes microwaves, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine has concluded in a report. ... Many of the officers suffered from dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and loss of hearing, memory and balance, and some were forced into permanent retirement. ... The new report reveals strong evidence that the incidents were the result of a malicious attack. It attributes the illnesses to "directed" and "pulsed" — rather than "continuous" — energy, implying that the victims’ exposure was targeted and not the result of more common sources of microwave energy, such as, for example, a cellphone. It also said the committee found the immediate symptoms that patients reported — including strange sensations of pain, pressure and sound that often appeared to emanate from a particular direction, or occurred in a specific spot in a room — were more consistent with a directed "attack" of radiofrequency energy. The committee considered other causes, like chemical exposures and infectious diseases, but said they appeared unlikely. The report said that the variability of the incidents, which appeared to affect people in different ways, left open the possible influence of "psychological and social factors.""

If intelligence agencies have these kinds of covert weapons, the private sector probably has them too. Although such devices don't appear to be in widespread use, it is at least conceivable that they've been deployed at some point, undetected, by corporate or governmental powers, against people causing trouble for these powers.

Targeted Individuals

Countries like China have been known to send gangs to harass, stalk, and discredit dissidents living abroad. Saudi agents have been caught harassing Saudi Arabia's critics using fake online identities in the US and Canada. The FBI's COINTELPRO program similarly targeted civil rights and antiwar activists across the country. That program would still be secret if activists hadn't burgled an FBI office, and it's exceedingly likely that some contemporary version of COINTELPRO still exists today, whether run by the FBI or by another agency.

With all of this in mind, the modern phenomenon of 'gangstalking' and 'Targeted Individuals' seems at least plausible. Even if the vast majority of people claiming to be gangstalking victims are merely misinterpreting the world around them, some individuals may indeed be targeted by shadowy forces. And there are rumors that these shadowy forces have pushed their critics into psychological instability and even death.

Many years ago, I had a relative who became convinced that he was a Targeted Individual because of his involvement with pro-Palestinian groups online. He experienced some symptoms reminiscent of Havana syndrome. He heard strange noises in his apartment and was convinced electronic weapons were involved. I walked him through the process of using a handheld detector to identify any unusual electromagnetic activity, and none was found. Eventually, it came to light that he had a drug problem that had deteriorated his mental health, leaving him confused and paranoid.

When I was a much younger man involved in activism, law enforcement harassment was normal. So were super weird interactions with strangers. There were times when random people would follow my friends and I around, sometimes getting out of their cars to take pictures of us. Later, I developed an incapacitating headache disorder and was stalked by an ex. For a long time, particularly after I started working directly in the world of conspiracies and cover ups, I wondered if I was being covertly harassed by shadowy forces. And I realized that I was, but only in the ways that we're all harassed by the shadowy forces of ads and algorithms and mass surveillance.

A few days ago, I learned that a man who wrote a book on high level corruption has been having a rough time of it. Since putting this book out there, he's been living in self-imposed exile in remote locations. This man has become convinced that he's being attacked psychically for publishing his book. Maybe he is, or maybe the psychological difficulty of having drawn attention to the conspiracies of the powerful is simply too much. Either way, he's asking for financial support. To be honest, while I believe that directed energy weapons have been used in the intelligence community, I have a hard time with the whole idea of psychic attacks. But I do think that the collective unconscious can exert enormous pressure on the psychologies of nonconforming people, to negative effect. We've all experienced this pressure to some extent, and dissidents of all kinds are familiar with its weight. Hopefully these dissidents don't start getting Havana syndrome.
