Haha!! Well done! It's running and so you have jumped the important hurdle! Those lights drive me batty. Like going to bed in a disco. Ugh!

Hope this helps!

Wow! It worked. And the mouse I have with a silly color changing led light also finally turned off. I can take off the tape, lol.

Fortunately it is in my office, but I hated walking past and seeing it. I ordered the case specifically making sure there were no led fans or windows I cannot close in it.

I even resorted to switching off the power bar at times.

Thanks!

I know it worked for me! :) I live by YouTube videos! I fixed a radiator in an old Victorian House on a Sunday Night once when plumbers were on triple time.

One of my proudest YouTube moments. LOL

Have a great day!

That sounds like an accomplishment.
Google and Youtube have saved me so much money (and pride) in the same way. I fixed a water heater under similar circumstances. My wife figured out how to do her car cabin air filters, too.
DIY is really great.

You got a smile out of me on this @abitcoinskeptic ...

"That's probably because I'm using the same monitor, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, desk, chair and posture."

... as it appears we may have a similar sense of humor. πŸ˜‰

It has always been interesting to me to work through the process of "starting over" with a new computer. There is almost invariably something to deal with ...

I hope you enjoy it!

Glad I managed. I thought the placing of that one was good. People are expecting cliches especially with all the reaction videos.
I should have taken a before and after video of start up. Notice the difference between the asus bios image and the asrock one. Amazing! And if we look at the stop watch....just give me a minute....0.3 seconds faster to the login. Wow!

The trick to change is spend a couple hours on the old machine preparing and dedicate a couple hours a month to backups or maintenance. I make sure it's all saved for export.
I'm sure I'll find a few more things to deal with especially considering I want to see Linux Mint on my old system.

Yes, I also get to this place @abitcoinskeptic ...

"... and dedicate a couple hours a month to backups or maintenance."

... and start out okay. But ... Over time, with all the best intentions, I can easily fall behind. With other priorities "crowding out" this one ...

Sounds interesting to install Linux on your old system. Do you have experience with that OS? Or are you challenging yourself to ramp up to it as a learning opportunity?

I fall behind, too. Regret if something dies suddenly.

I have been using linux off and on since early 2000s. I've settled on mint since Elyssa in 2008 and remember nerding out in 2012 when Maya was released (I skipped win7). I started off with cinnamon but have settled on Mate since then as it has lower hardware requirements, but otherwise feels the similar. I currently have Tessa installed on my netbook and I'll see if I can get that on the older desktop first then just wait for the January edition to upgrade to the latest. I'm thinking of putting that computer next to my TV and using it as a giant firestick.

Okay, very good @abitcoinskeptic. I don't "speak Linux," so most of these references are over my head.

Doesn't sound like you'll be bored any time in the near future. And with your gardening season coming to an end, good timing! πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

Hi, @abitcoinskeptic
Congratulations πŸŽŠπŸŽ‰πŸΎπŸŽˆ on your new computer! When I get a new one I always am excited to see it zoom down the internet faster then my old one!
I had to chuckle at the end cause I realize there was a day I would skip the details, but now after building a few crypto miners I want to know what components people pick and why..

I also wanted to say I enjoyed the civil discourse you and markkjuntunen had about Steem economics. It’s so refreshing to see people discus different points of view and debate points without deteriorating into a flag war. Thank you. Every day, in some little way, things here get better.
Take care,

It's interesting how computers have just become either gaming or Internet machines for most uses
Cryptominers specs seem a little different. You probably focus on GPU and a motherboard that just supports a lot of those. Electricity is too expensive here to bother with that. Although, whenever I get a new GPU, admittingly I try to see how well it can do.
The one I have now could easily run mira, especially if I threw in another 16gb of ram.

Glad you enjoyed my discussion with markkjuntunen. I guess you are meaning our conversation about Steem liquidity and powerdowns. I don't even disagree with a lot of what was said. It is more of my way of asking for clarification or getting meaningful discussion. I only flag people who abuse Steem or really annoy me with trolling. It hasn't crossed my mind to flag him before..

Hi
I agree that computers have become very specialized. The pre-fabricated computer miners for Bitcoin have only one single purpose and are very difficult to repurpose for anything other then mining.

This is not how I envisioned computers developing. I thought they might become fancy home media centers like a PlayStation which allows internet webpage navigation via a built in browser, photo and movie storage, playing streaming movies via Netflix, watching YouTube and playing games.

But so far I haven’t seen that, but perhaps individuals can build their own system to do all these things. And a popular manufacturer will follow up and improve upon this media center design.

We will see.

I've always figured there would be a few types of computers that can do everything alright, ie. phones, laptops/tablets and desktops (especially with peripherals). These are very good for lifesyle, etc.

And then there are computers that can do one or two things extremely well (ie. bitcoin miners, robots). Cloud computing and storage are opening up interesting new avenues, and cryptology is keeping everything safe, but there are still some things I don't feel comfortable having on the internet. Air gapping is still the best failsafe we have. Also, if we want computers to be extremely efficient and tiny, we will only make them useful for what we are using them for.

Certainly a good new toy that you have there my friend.
I am still on my old 32bit, 2Gig Ram computer that I am now typing this on and will most likely never get a new one.
This one was donated and I refurbished it, but the way that the prices of spares are going now, it would be cheaper to buy a new one.
Blessings and enjoy!

2gig ram seems under powered, but I guess on 32-bit it's fine.
Most of the old computers in Korea end up being sold for scrap unless they are high end.
I live very close to the main SK and Samsung chip plants, huge just begins to describe the places.
I'm not sure I can mail an entire computer, but I now have 2 x 4gb ram sticks I'm not using which I could mail.
I can get you the exact specs later and make sure they are working fine (7years old no obvious problems) if you want those.

Thank you for the kind offer my friend, but it's okay as this computer still serves me fine. I have a 500 Gig Harddrive that a friend gave me, but have not installed it yet.
Once this PC starts to give me serious problems, I will start to upgrade it.
But for now things are all still working.
Blessings!

I ordered my computer online because how else are you going to get a computer without using a computer?

This line caught me up lol. Good thing you finally allowed your previous computer to rest for a while, 7 years ain't no joke. Mine will be celebrating it's 2nd birthday in November.

That being said, I did realize this is a DIY (do it yourself) and How-to article, since most of your posts are related to DIY and How-to posts, it'll be ideal if you post via the @build-it website.

Build-it is a new tribe on the steem blockchain that serves as a central hub for DIY and How-to's contents on steemit. The recommended tags required when creating a DIY artcle are #diy, #build-it. #how-to, or #doityourself. You'll get rewarded with BUILD tokens, which can also be exchanged for steem on steem-engine when you use any of the recommended tags as well as posting via our website.

Cheers!

7 years is a long time, especially in computer history. It was one of the first mid-level computers with USB 3.0. Other than NVME and USB C, I haven't seen many fundamental changes. Maybe things are slowing down as it is a lot more functional than a 7-year-old computer back in 2012 would have felt.

I will have to take a look at build-it. Often I do DIY stuff. However, in this case, all I really did was set up my OS and install an old video card. Thanks for the info.

Thanks. I got around to editing it. Still, haven't got around to discord though. I'll try out the build-it site next time I'm writing DIY heavy.
