The 500 Horse Power, 6 Wheeled Supercar You Can't Afford But..
you can still dream right? This is one of those mind-melting, jaw-dropping, bank-account-draining cars that are in fantasy land for most mortals.
Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!
I didn't even know this beast existed until a few days ago. It's a Covina C6W and is made by a small Italian firm.
It's very sleek, yes? The double sets of front wheels have several important advantages. For instance, it has double the front braking power so it comes to a stop faster and with more control.
In cornering, the corners can be taken with greater speed but more control.
Four front tires also greatly reduces the risk of hydroplaning.
And provides greater absorption in the case of a front end collision.
More tires provide more traction which means faster acceleration but with more stability.
With the improved performance and safety provided with 6 wheels I'm surprised we haven't seen more vehicles with 6 wheels. For the consumer market I'm talking about.
You can order one on their website...$650,000. I think they only make about ten per year.
Ford had this concept in 1962!
It's true, they came out with a concept car called the Seattle-ite:
It's style and lines were outrageously radical at the time and the vision they had for it was even more radical.
They wanted it to have a computer navigation system even though GPS and the necessary technology hadn't even been invented yet!
The models posing with cars have changed a little.
source
The designers even wanted it to have changeable power cells, even nuclear! Talk about visionaries. Wonder how long they worked on it before the project got scrapped?
If they hadn't given up on it we might all be driving 6 wheeled cars!
Thanks for stopping by folks, God bless you all!

PS- Talk about bizarre designs, I never seen one as weird as this:
This is a car built in 1948 called the Sir-Vival. The rear was made from a 1947 Hudson and the front end was made from a 1948 Nash.
It was designed and proclaimed to be the safest car in the world. The concept was that the front end would absorb all the damage in case of a front collision.
I don't know if that theory was ever tested because for some reason the major car companies didn't want to produce it. lol. I'm not sayin it's the world's most ugly car but it's gotta be near the top of the list.
I do like that 360 degree view though and it had a vertical squeegee that ran around the whole windshield.
How would you like to find one of these in a junk yard?
I have to say... That car is really ugly but so beautiful and unique in many ways I kind of like it. It's something totally different hey😱.. I've seen the old Ford in pictures before but never the newer cars. Thanks for this knowledge
That Sir-Vival I would not mind finding one in a scrapyard but unfortunately I am pretty sure that vehicle was never manufactured in ZA or even imported at all. So that piece of history will always be lost to me. However if I am ever able to move overseas that would most definitely be one of my project builds.
Howdy sir techicalside! I agree and that would be an amazing project to build. I think you would get a great many stares if you could drive one of those down the street!

Howdy esteemapp! Thanks so much for the upvote and the great platform!
I am also wondering - why? Although it looks rather strange, I don't think it is a real reason. Do you have any guesses ? ))
Howdy zirochka! yes, it is more difficult and more expensive to build but if they would have started back in the 1960's then by now they would have the costs down. Do you like the style or do you like the last car better, the Sir-Vival? lol.
Haha, the last car is brilliant 😁
I agree, and it is probably so rare that you could buy your dream house if you had one to sell!
It is very likely
You know... Six-wheeled cars look like inseccts. I can see that being a thing, though. It would be a lot of fun for the designers to make them look a little more insect-like.
As for nuclear-powered cars, think of how well that would have gone over. Get in a wreck down-town NYC, and you could kill a couple hundred thousand people from the resulting melt-down!
lol...oh I guess that last part isn't funny! yeah they'd have to be made indestructible. Make the 6 wheelers more insect-like! lol. That's hilarious and maybe they would. We're probably really missing out!
I'll take a a Sir-Vival please...A white one. Not into that 6 wheeled car...Just doesn't look right...But that Sir-Vival? Legit! 😁
lol..are you saying you like the looks of the Sir-Vival over the Covina???
Lol...Just joshin' of course.
oh good. lol..I thought it was hideous looking but would be a fantastic car to have so sell to collectors. But I agree, the Covina just doesn't look right. In a way it would almost be worth it for the looks and stares you'd get from people. lol.
Take away those extra wheels and I'm in...Leave them there and it's Sir-Vival for me! 😝
lol! But if they take away the extra wheels then they can't charge 650 grand! lol..that would kill their niche market.
I'm sure there's plenty of people out there willing to part with their cabbage for the vehicle. I'm not one. I don't have the money anyway I guess.
Even if I had the money I can think of so much better ways to invest it. If I was going to splurge on a massive vehicle purchase it would be a monster truck!
...or an apocalypse vehicle? I actually agree. Much better things to spend on. Hope you're having a good weekend.
Howdy sir galenkp! My weekend is going great but I've been offline most of the time so I'm way behind. I think I saw one of your posts that said you were in Singapore???!! What the? I gotta go see what that's about. Must be nice to be able to just drop things and travel around the world!
Nah, not in Singapore, must be some other alternate me maybe? I've been doing a few chores at home, a load down at the dump, just general stuff that collects at home, and now am sitting down relaxing. It's hot here, 38°C (100F) so I'm sipping lemon cordial and chillin' now.
What the? I wonder what I saw then? I'll let you know when I find what I thought I saw on your blog. lol. You guys are in the middle of summer now?
Not the middle, just started 1 Dec. It's a long summer though and will be very hot until April.
I assume you guys have great air conditioning there? And you kind of stay indoors more?
Most people have good air conditioning, but life goes on and so we just get on with it. We still have to work during the week and get stuff done, hobbies etc. I suppose we change what we do and when where possible, but in general we just push on.
Same here, just get used to it and make sure we stay hydrated. I don't think it gets quite as hot here though..the real hot weather lasts about three months.
Yeah, we're tough blokes after all right? Manly men! 😃
Hey, just a heads-up...That rascally trucker @krazzytrukker must have seen that comment about me coming to your place and he suggested he's going to drive up that driveway of yours with impunity and no fear. I told him he might get shot but he seemed unconcerned.
Watch out bro, he's comin' for ya 😃
lol! He better bring a smaller truck! I told him he'd never make it around our circle driveway that our lane is off of but he said I'd be surprised where he could take that thing. lol.
We've had guys with pickups pulling a 16 ft trailer get hung up and not able to make the circle, it's tight! But yeah he's welcome to try but it might be a one-way trip for his truck!
It will make a good post if he get's that rig stuck. Take loads of photos. 😊
lol! I don't think I could do that to him but it would be tempting!
He made me into a Lego man today...He deserves a post of him getting stuck on your driveway. 😂
Ain't Skeerd........
....... To back up. Lol
I can see the owners of that palatial mansion having a garage full of these cars janton. One's only option is to become friends with them so one can get some rides, lol
lol..I agree and I DID think about this car sitting in the estate of that Dallas mansion. lol.
Mornin’ Cowboy. that’s quite the car. It seems everything old is new again. 😂
Howdy today redheadpei! It's an amazing car but a little pricey. lol. I wish I had one so I could sell it.
Wow, that Sir-Vival kinda reminds me of the Homer Simpson car:
https://duckduckgo.com/?q=homer+simpson+car&iax=images&ia=images&iai=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gunaxin.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2010%2F05%2Fthe-homer-car-simpsons-powell-motors.bmp
I'm not sure what I think about a car with 6 wheels. My first thought was that it was ugly, but a second look it wasn't so bad. Hm. I suspect it must be a pig on gas, but then again, if you could afford to buy it in the first place, a $100 tank of gas every week is probably pocket change.
You know, as a thought, if the car had 8 wheels, it could arguably stand getting two flat tires on the highway and still be drivable.
lol..love they Homer Simpson car sir wwwiebe, it DOES look similar! I agree, at first the 6 wheeled car doesn't look right but then it starts looking better the more you look at it. 8 wheels! Why not? They do it with all kinds of trucks and if two front wheels are so good then why not two back wheels? lol.
No! Thanks! I don’t like noisy cars! They frighten my cats!
lol..this sure would sir kaminchan but you could sell it and buy a nice electric vehicle!
I can see the advantages of two front wheels. I bet it does have better acceleration, and it's too speed is possibly limited. With 4 wheels, that's a lot of traction.
Either way, is not traditional looking. Bet it's a tough sale.
Howdy sir deepwaters! shoot, you fell off my radar I'm sorry, I'll get back to your blog. Anyway, I think it's such an unusual car that wealthy people buy them for the novelty of it so I think the company is doing fine.
Of course! It is a novelty item.
So, now that the Tesla Cybertruck launched, what do you think of it?
I remember that we were both speculative about that showcase.
Note: I think it is brilliant! Durable, long range, aerodynamic, obviously much more power than anything out there. Not gorgeous, but certainly brilliant!
It is indeed a brilliant concept and since it seems to be the future I think it's smart to try and get in front of the rest of the field.
I think they can make it dependable enough and the strong body and especially with stainless steel is a winner.
One thing I have doubts about is the lack of big mirrors on the side. It's hard to imagine that interior cameras will be able to perform as well in actual working conditions as those big mirrors.
Oh, and they'll need to come out with a model that has a bigger bed, the bed will need to be an 8 foot bed to compete with the big Ford, Dodge and Chevy work horses hauling longer things like standard drywall panels.
Yeah, the longer bed would put it on the 2-3 ton truck category like f-250s. I guess that crossed the designers minds. As for the side mirrors, Tesla already employs 6+ cameras and sensors for the self driving procedures. Which by the way, is where Tesla's gold mine really is. They are a software company, dressed as a car company. They might not even need the mirrors expect for legal reasons.
I love the steel plaiting. I think it's ridiculous to have to get body work for such dull metals in cars. I love the old steel plated truck like the f1. It is so perfect that Tesla is bringing back steel.
When I think of self driving trucks, I always remember this movie
Looks a beauty, maintenance cost must be huge🙏

I'm sure it would cost a small fortune. lol. Hope your weekend is going well clitadias!
Right 😃 My weekend was good, school closed for winter break. Happy days until 5th January 2020!!
Glad to hear it, good for you guys and have fun! Oh, what about your husband, is he off work also? What does he do?

Okay, the first photos look photoshopped.
Or maybe a concept car that doesn't go anywhere.
If i was doing such a thing, the first thing to go would be two front seats.
The wheel, and the holding mechanism (struts, tie rods, A-arms) take up the entire space where your feet would normally go.
There is none of these things shown, just the wheel. So, either they are all gone, tying the wheel straight to the frame (which makes for a very bad ride) or its just for show.
This is untrue. The larger the surface area of rubber in contact with the road is the upper limit of how much force you can apply for acceleration. But really, the first dynamic is how much downward force you have on the driving wheels. Further, breaking the rubber grip is usually only noticeable off the starting line.
And with the weight transferred to the back under acceleration, four front tires mean nothing.
This is blatantly false.
To resist hydroplaning the cars weight has to push the tires down through the layer of water. Weight divided by 6 is less than weight divided by 4. So, the car with 6 wheels would be much more likely to hydroplane.
But, there might be something about having the two front tires push the water out of the way for the next two tires to grip.
Lastly, if 6 tires really made a difference in track handling, the 24 hours at Le Mans would have all 6 wheeled cars.
Howdy builderofcastles! Good to hear from you. You'll have to take up your disagreements with the car enthusiast reviews about the Covina, there's lots of them online and I know nothing about the engineering.
I do know that the 6 wheel configuration was a great success in F1 racing in the 70's begun by the Tyrrell P34 six-wheeled F1 car.
Other teams began building their own but they came out with rules saying the cars could only have 4 wheels. Thanks so much for the brilliant comment though!
Neat thing about the Sur-vival is that with a bit a forethought, both front and rear segments can be interchangeable. I actually reckon that is a highly functional improvement, particularly considering we've been pretty much doing that since the invention of the eighteen wheeler.
As to the Covini, I dunno why they didn't just make the front end dually. Far less expensive, and just as functional. I suppose it wouldn't have the visual impact of the extra axle. Reckon that's a silly reason though.
Thanks!
Howdy sir valued-customer! So you like the concept of the Sir-vival car...I think we could have taken it and incorporated some of his ideas but it would have to be pleasing to the eye and that might be hard to do. I think his version was far from pleasing to the eye. lol.
As far as the Covina, I don't know why they designed it that way but they say they only make about 10 of them each year so I think the style appeals to enough people with money that it works for them!
Remember Thunderbirds?
Howdy sift666! No I've never heard of them, who made them?
LOL - Texas really is on another planet isn't it? - that is Lady Penelope's car!
"Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward is a fictional character introduced in the British mid-1960s Supermarionation television series Thunderbirds, who also appears in the film sequels Thunderbirds Are Go (1966) and Thunderbird 6 (1968) and the 2004 live-action adaptation Thunderbirds. She is employed by the secret organisation International Rescue as London field agent"
I think you guys would call a TV series like this "reruns" - this series was a classic like Gilligan's Island or something
lol! that is so interesting sift666! I had never heard of such a show, thanks so much for the introduction to it, that's too funny!
I really love the aeronautical shape but those extra wheels do not do it any justice at all 😒
lol. It is a very strange look indeed sir hangin. Not unlike sir hangin walking around Thailand. lol. Just think of the extra looks THIS car would get you!
Haha .... i don't need the car the Vin already gets enough looks .... hehe 🤭
Oh brother...well that's probably true but what kind of looks? lol.
The seductive look sir janton what else 🤣 👀 😎
Of course. lol!
🤭 🤭 🤭
I had no idea any of these even existed! $650,000 for any car seems a bit excessive. Even when Steem hits $1000 I would probably pass!
But think how much attention you'd get driving one of those through town! lol.. they look cool but that's a ridiculous amount of money.
I think it's interesting that they had great success with these in the F1 racing but the powers that be came out with rules saying all cars had to have just 4 wheels. Or else you guys might be cheering your favorite driver in one of the 6 wheelers.
Who IS your favorite driver anyway? I never asked about those races before.
Lando Norris for McLaren. He is so young and is doing so well. I'm looking forward to next season!
That's good to hear and it sounds like he'll be racing for a long time!
He was a teenager for most of the season and is so engaging!
Oh wow, that IS young! Well that's even more exciting.
He turned 20 just before the last race of the season. He is having so much fun!
I didn't even know they had any racers that young!
He drives in an online video game racing league that my son drives in!
Oh wow, I never thought of that, that's amazing. No wonder he's so popular!
It makes you realize that sports figures are not all elitist, but are real people, too!
Yes! I hope he stays that way.
