What is BOID?

@boid is pretty new to the Whaleshares, making their first post just two days ago, but they came to the platform swinging for the fences. So what is BOID?

BOID is basically an app that you install on your computer and while it is running it is working in conjunction with computers across the world solving large tasks. The best part is that these tasks you are helping with can be life changing, and you also get paid for your work, so that is another bonus. Check out this quick informational video that goes into a bit more detail about what BOID is.

One of the cool things about BOID is that it is used to help out researchers solve tasks to aid in their research. These tasks are broken down into small jobs that can be solved on any computer and through the BOID app, your CPU works on solving those tasks. One of the projects that BOID is helping with right now is aiding with mapping cancer markers.

Mapping Cancer Markers on World Community Grid aims to identify the markers associated with various types of cancer. The project is analyzing millions of data points collected from thousands of healthy and cancerous patient tissue samples. These include tissues with lung, ovarian, prostate, pancreatic and breast cancers. By comparing these different data points, researchers aim to identify patterns of markers for different cancers and correlate them with different outcomes, including responsiveness to various treatment options. ^source

How do you get started?

First you will need to get an EOS wallet. I have found that Scatter is the easiest and supported by everything I have used thus far on the EOS network. You can download Scatter here. They have versions for Mac and PC. I am not going to go through the process of setting up an account on Scatter, but if you need help with it, you can check out @moonunit's post that include's the process here.

The install for the BOID app is pretty straight forward and it starts running pretty easily. You get assigned to a team when you first join, but you are welcome to join the Beyond Bitcoin team. It looks like there are leaderboards and team competitions. So it would be pretty awesome to have all of us from Whaleshares working together.

I have been running the app for almost a day now and have generated 239 BOID Power and have 4700 pending. I am not too sure on what the pending means or how long it will take to show up on my account as actual Boid Power.

You also get paid out every 24-48 in Boid Tokens, which can be traded on the EOS exchanges. You can also stake your tokens for the season starting on the 21st and that will give you better payouts for your work. Those tokens will remain staked from 4/21-6/21 and you will not be able to stake any tokens once the season starts. The minimum amount of Boid Tokens to stake is 100,000, so if you are just starting now, you may not make it in time for the upcoming season.

Awesome Potential

Overall, I think that the BOID project is pretty awesome. Not only are you doing great things for humanity in general, but it is a great way to make some passive income on the side. It is one of those projects that has some huge potential and real world need.
