Apple Vision - An Adaptive Eye Solution

I am grateful for being able to see the world with my pair of eyes. Despite needing to wear glasses on a daily basis, I am still able to enjoy everything that I want to do. Learning the basics of technology many years ago, discussion topics were greatly centred on how tech can make lives better. Helping those who have impairment or need an extra helping hand in one way or another. Over the years, visual technology has come a long way. Virtual reality has been at the top of my list and I am patiently waiting to try out AR glasses.

Wearing headset in VR isn’t always straightforward. It’s not likely one would wear their prescription lenses underneath and many have invested in their own bespoke add on lenses. With AR Glasses technology in the works from apple, I was interested to view a patent that would eliminate the need to wear prescriptions when enjoying Mixed Reality (MR). The patent details a calibration system that will be capable of optical adjustment to align with prescription needs, no matter the degree of impairment. For a user like myself, this is a big win and makes me instantly give Apple the one up on all other competition. There is an evident problem in the market that does not accommodate a wide set of the population and Apple may find success in their upcoming venture by making a seamless and accessible product. The device may even assess one’s eyes on the spot, it’s something that has most definitely caught my attention.

Automatic correction for astigmatism and other sight conditions is an exciting proposition. I am curious to see if this technology will be applied to AR devices and this might even change the way people shop for their necessary eyewear. People have often shot down eye technology, and rightfully so. There isn’t much on offer to really revolutionise sight in our day to day lives. However, if apple are moving towards products that will bring the convenience of iPhones right to my eyes, I would have to seriously think about diving into their ecosystem once more. Seeing the world with our own eyes is a gift that should always be valued. Perhaps the time is finally coming where wearable eye technology will make a big difference. I’ll be digging back into the upcoming Apple Glass news and rumours in the coming days.
