We all know that these amazing birds have fascinated humans for so long ,with their massive tail and attractive colors within their feather.

Today, I want to share with you some surprising facts about peacocks. Moreover, I will share with you my own photos I've taken myself of these wonderful creatures.

  • Peacocks aren't born with their fancy tails

Peachicks (the name of peacocks babies) don't grow their train until they reach 3 years old. At six months, their feathers start to change their colors gradually. This is how males are distinguished from females.

  • They don't have to be killed in order to have their feathers

In fact, peacocks do shed their train during a period called mating season. This way, they are not harmed and their colorful feathers are gathered.

  • During madieval times, peacocks were served with their feathers in dishes.

At that time, the birds were plucked, roasted and re-dressed in their feathers so as to appear normal in dinner tables. Birds looked certainly beautiful, however they definetly tasted so bad

  • These creatures are able to fly despite their heavy weight

Although their tales are heavy, they can fly fine but not far

  • The average running speed of these animals is about 16 km/h

  • The reason a peacock has such a bright and dramatic train is to attract the attention of peahens, who normally choose their mates based on the size, color and quality of the feathers and train.
